Citroen to launch green sub-brand

According to an unnamed "insider," Citroen is considering launching a separate brand just for eco-friendly vehicles. Earlier this year, the quirky French automaker announced a new high-end brand that would bring premium features to its existing vehicle platforms. Similarly, the first production vehicle under the green brand would echo the C-Cactus concept from the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2007 but be built atop the automaker's C4 platform.
Expect some innovative uses of materials, as previewed on the C-Cactus project, along with a fuel-saving powertrain of some sort. Options include going fully electric, using a hybrid powertrain or using a small three-cylinder diesel engine that would put out less than 100 g/km of carbon emissions. Sounds great, but let's just hope they don't keep too much of the melted-candle look of the concept.

Interesting idea. Separate branding has been the best way to differentiate luxury brands. It'll be intriguing to see how this works with an eco line.

i was shopping for a car in january and i checked out their C2, C3, C4, Berlingo, and Nemo, just for the sport of it. none of them can be driven with a size 13 shoe. your feet just don't fit under the dash in the C-series and the clutch/brake pedal is in wrong shape in Berlingo and Nemo - the shaft curls upwards right above the pedal, your toes hit the shaft and the heel touches the floor before the actual pedal. you can't fit a 6'3" person in a C2 at all. i understand that there are no tall people in France but rent one from Holland or Denmark? that would be really green.

Count me as one who actually kinda digs the 'melted candle' look. A styling risk, but one that works.

Where the hell is the new DS we were promised??????
C'mon Citroen. The world is ripe for a real Citroen for the masses - something that looks like nothing else. And get back over to America!

It's the new "world's most beautiful car"! ;D
Seriously: It's a curiously awkward design. With just a few tweaks to the gestalt it could be beautiful. It almost looks like they created a great design and then Citroened it here-and-there to visual weirdness.

Hmmm...it's quirky. I kinda like it.
Of course, the French auto market is now going to get flooded with car names like "Cactus".
