VIDEO: 2010 BMW Z4 hits the road

After releasing photos and information on its new Z4 roadster yesterday, we now have a pair of videos showing the Z4 in action. In the first clip BMW Automobile design head Adrian van Hooydonk and exterior design head Anders Warming discuss the new design. The operative word in the new Z4's design appears to be "Joy" although how joyous this car will be remains to be seen. Certainly the new look should make observers a lot happier than old one but ultimately any car is about the driving experience. Here the second video demonstrates how you can use the Z4 for the automotive equivalent of finger painting. The videos are after the jump. Thanks to Alberto for the tip!

Very nice upgrade to the current one. I like the headlights.

The more I look at it, the more I like it... same went for the last generation Z4. The rear end looks similar to the 6-series, but fits this car a lot better.

wow this car looks great, it would look even better in a darker color.....who buys tan cars anymore anyway?
maybe we can just remember the z3 and this z4 and forget about the bangled one in the middle?

People that buy Toyota Camry's buy tan cars. I really like the headlights on this body, looks pretty good overall.

this is a classic bmw color, bronzit beige.
but i'd take one in monaco blue.
but i'd really take a cayman over this.

Nice! Although I think the hardtop really sets it off, I don't think I'd ever have the top down.

Agreed, as a coupe, I would buy this car in a minute. Not into converts. A stunning car as a hardtop though. A V8 hardtop M4 would be epic.

The question is whether or not they will release a hard-top version. The last-gen. hard-top wasn't a huge seller and with the world economy I wonder if they would even find a market for both a hard-top and hard-top convertible.

Wow, look at that new Z4 S-Drive 3.0!
I drive a new S-Drive BMW.
Would you like to drive my S-Drive?
Drivers who drive the S-Drive like driving.
Try S-Drive...it's for drivers!
Have you driven a S-Drive lately?
Sorry, have to get it out of the system. Like an Austin Powers "mole" infatuation...
The car is nice, but as I stated on the last Z4 post... dumbest model designations EVER! They simplified the I-Drive, and complicated the model designations... oh... one more...
My S-Drive comes with I-Drive, so when I drive my Z4 3.0 S-Drive it drives how I want it to drive!
Why BMW? Why???

The word they used to describe this car was "freedom" not joy. Which is good because as attractive as the car is, joy is not a word I would use to describe the complex interplay of surfaces. Pleasure or eros perhaps...

Much better than the Z4. W/ the Z4 people had mistaken tacky for aggressive. This somewhat restores the elegance of older (pre-Bangled) BMWs, albiet w/ some Bangle elements tastefully put in.
Still not sold on it though. I'm wanting to see the coupe version.

although how joyous we'll be this car remains to be seen
just read that again and then turn it into english.

This is a fantastic new car. Looks great, sounds like a really fun car to drive, and would definitely be my definition of "joy" when combined with a good twisty road and sunshine (preferably with a proper 6-speed, but even DCT is enough to be fun).
And that second video is awesome.

It looks terrrible!. I think this just another is a series "flames" which are of overly complex, overly stylized and represent some insecure group think. False scallops and creases will be remembers as BMW's "tail fin" age.
BMW may have great engineering, but exterior designers have lost contact with the essence of the car...any car,

I have one question about this car, though (and the answer may be somewhere else). Is there going to be a fixed roof version? I doubt it, but I think that would be really cool. Maybe the Z4 M will have a fixed roof.
Or not.
