First photo of Detroit's trio of muscle cars!

Credit goes to our friends at Jalopnik for orchestrating the shot you see above, which took some quick planning and a lot of luck. General Motors recently held a sneak peak media drive for the Chevy Camaro V6 out in San Diego, and unfortunately only the biggest buff books and Edmunds Inside Line were invited (tsk, tsk). Jalopnik decided to crash the party the best way they know how - by showing up driving the Camaro's two biggest competitors, the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger. Classic Jalopnik, and how they managed to find two black ones we'll never know.
This is the first published picture of all three modern muscle cars together, at least that we know of. Jalopnik EIC Ray Wert and his team weathered an extremely miffed GM PR person to get it, and word is we'll have video later of the heated exchange. What GM got miffed about is unknown, since last we checked San Diego had no laws against driving your car and parking it on public streets. Now if you'll excuse us, we have to rummage through our junk folder to find the invitation to this event that we're sure GM sent and we somehow never got.

to make this truly legit, we will have to wait for the 2010 mustang which will be shown very soon...
then we will have our slugfest

My sentiments exactly.
Ford better not F it up either! The only thing that sucks is that the Ford Mustang has been out for years with the retro look, so an updated retro look will look, well, worn out for lack of a better term. I think the current model will go down in History.
I guess only the revealing will tell us. Even if it looks like the Giugiaro Mustang concept it will be a tough match. It'll be less-retro, ya know?
Best wishes to all three pony cars. Now all we need is something with T-Tops and I'll be a happy f-n camper!
And please bow your heads in a moment of silence for the AMC Matador, AMC Javelin, Mercury Cougar, Plymouth Barracuda, Pontiac Firebird and Pontiac TransAm which will not be making it to the reunion.
Rust In Peace (respectfully)

Great shot. It's like 1970 again.
*Although I wasn't even born in the 70's.

Its 1970 all over again alright. Gas prices through the roof, the death of the muscle car...yeup.
Funny that i had a car mag saying "its 1970 all over again" on the same day that cnnmoney.com posted an article called "its 1970 all over again" talking about stagflation. Only this time muscle cars are about 10 years too late to the party. Great cars but too bad they will die off again very soon.

But it could easily turn into the late 70's.

Lord help me, but the looks of the Challenger are more appealing to me in this shot.

I agree. I'm a Ford guy, but I've got to admit that the Challenger is the best looking of the trio. I still can't get used to the Camaro for some reason.

..
The Camaro looks much crispier than the Challenger.
The Mustang is simply too old.
..
Just my opinion, your may wary.

I'd like to see a gt500, srt8 challenger, camaro SS comparison.
All on a road course (a real one), and on the drag strip.
Don't know when the SS camaro begins production, but i hope it's soon, at least for this comparisons sake.

That Camaro is a pre-production model. The headlights give it away.

I'd be miffed too if someone brought FINISHED PRODUCTION examples and parked them next to my cobbled together V6 Camaro with SS fascia scoop, tiny wheels, and pre-production projector headlights.

Looks like thats the SS, not the V6. Notice the snout on top...Def SS

That's not even a production model, it's one of the pre-production mules.
It does have the V6 wheels though.
Hard telling whether it has a V6 or 8.
BTW, why the hell are they driving around a crappy mule when they have production-spec models ready to go?

Excuse me while I grow my sideburns out...
Dammit, I want a Challenger!

I think the Camaro is a kid with built up teen-angst... the Challenger would be his older, wiser guidance counselor. The Mustang? The creepy uncle that touches the Camaro at night.
