More proof that a surprising number of Ferrari owners can't drive

It wouldn't be correct to say that all Ferrari drivers can't drive. What we can say is that a lot of Ferrari drivers are probably not short of ego, and also probably have little idea of what their cars can do when pressed. Combine a robust confidence with a watching crowd, add a high-powered and sometimes testy car, thrown in a little bit of ignorance... and a pole.. and what you get is the image above.
A man in Australia pulled out of a garage in his Ferrari 360 Spyder, took his chance to impress some gathered folks at cafes lining the street, and floored it. The car, as they say in the business, got away from him. The pole in the median did not. We're never happy to see (another) wrecked Ferrari, or to see a man carted away from his toy by the police, so to you kids with Ferraris, please learn from this and stop the madness.
Our favorite part of this picture is that, having made his boo-boo and probably realizing what he's in for, the driver is still just sitting in the car, although the guy in the blue shirt flexing in the background also gets a special mention... Thanks for the tip, Sam!

Seeing as that was in Perth, it's fair to say he was probably off his face on meth at the time. I guess it proves that just because you have the metal, it doesn't make you the man.

This is example 2,345 of money being used as a substitute for skills.

I thought so too. This is a very old and widely circulated set of pictures. I think there are even some of those "Fail" type pictures out there with there...

I dare say there are too few drivers that are honestly and truely capable of handling some of these "sreet" cars that are way overboard when it comes to HP...those drivers are rare.....there seem to be quite a few cars that have a horsepower rating that should only be allowed on a legitimate race track...there are no roads safe enough to totally unleash the enormous power and be able to handle the car at the same time by most drivers.....money does not buy agility and coordination required to drive one of these right out of the showroom...perhaps driving lessons by a qualified manufacturers' instructor should be a mandantory part of the purchase package ....

Actually dausman, you're right. There are some owners/drivers of this class of car who are skilled, careful, and who appreciate their cars' value enough NOT to wreck it. A friend of mine has a Lamborghini Miura which he regularly drives, drives briskly but not stupidly, and who knows both the value of his car and the importance of maintaining it for its future value (he'll never sell it though).

Instead of banning high horsepower cars like some crazy politicians suggest, governments should worry about making sure that only people who CAN drive are allowed to do so.
