You are there: Chicago Auto Show build-up streaming live

We're less than a week away from the media preview at the Chicago Auto Show and the web gurus enlisted to make the show's site more than just a list of press conferences and parking diagrams have added streaming video in six different locations through the floor. One is aimed towards the Acura booth, another is strategically placed facing Dodge's stand, while the rest are spread intermittently throughout the 1.2 million square foot facility.
We don't ask much, but if you've got a spare couple of minutes over the course of the next six days, check out the cams periodically and see if anything of interest is rolling onto the floor. Do a screen grab and send us a tip. Help the Autoblog Nation own Chicago.
Thanks for the tip, Mike!

My guess is that automakers will have learned from GM's premature G8 debut on the video screen in the Pontiac display - unless of course it was intentional.

They have to test the screens out. What are they supposed to do, wait until day one to find out that there's a glitch??

I mean that the automakers will be more careful about knowing what might be seen like putting up screens around turntables or in front of video displays - unless they knew it would be seen and let it be showed it anyway.

The cameras have been there for several years now.
And starting with last year, they get turned off when requested - like when a "secret" vehicle needs to be moved into place.
TIP: Find the freight elevators. And keep looking there. ;)

It looks like GM already had them shut off the camera for the camaro.

The Camaro wasn't expected to be shown at Chicago again - it wasn't at Detroit.
Maybe the Traverse?

If you do anything while you're in Chicago, check the LED fountains in Millenium Park, right on Michigan Avenue. Better in summer, of course, when there's water running over them!

"Showlopnik", the Chicago Auto Show blog, is stating that because of this post, the cameras are now off until Wednesday. The writer specifically blames Autoblog.
Which is a bunch of garbage. Some of us have been using those cams since they went online years ago to "scout out the setup." Before Autoblog was on the scene.
Last year, they did the same thing - turned off the camera for a few days as they rolled concepts around the floor. This is not a new development. Shame on them.

Adding to that, the "middle-finger salute" was highly unnecessary on their part. Anyways, I presumed the whole purpose of having the webcams was to build up hype. In other words, letting viewers catch a slight glimpse of debuting cars when it's available. It was entertaining when I spent a part of my time zooming in and out throughout the showfloor trying to get a glimpse of any unintentional mishaps. Bad move on the Chicago Auto Show staff.

I thought I was the only one having problems viewing the web cams. I don't see why they should turn them off, they aren't perfect cams anyway; even if we see something most people would rather see hi res images or see something in person. Besides, we know what most of everything is going to look like.
