Go Speed Racer, Go! Wachowskis bringing live-action version to theaters
Larry and Andy Wachowski, the minds behind The Matrix and its unfortunate sequels, are gambling that a live-action version of the anime classic, Speed Racer, will resonate with moviegoers. The project will be written and directed by the Wachowskis, who are developing the film's visual style as they write the screenplay. Producer Joel Silver, who has partnered with the brothers on the Matrix trilogy and V For Vendetta, convinced them to take on Speed Racer during the filming of Vendetta. Unlike their past projects, Speed Racer will be family-friendly, and feature racing sequences likely to showcase the brothers' knack for producing astonishing visual effects. All the characters you know from the animated series are set to appear in the film, which is slated for a Summer 2008 release.

Awesome. My vote is for Hugh Jackman as Racer X.
And George W. as Chim-chim.

the "unfortunate" sequels were way better than the average car-show-resurrection movie...

As long as they don't have another rave scene...

#1, I tend to be conservative and vote Republican, but that Chim Chim comment was funny.

I've been waiting for Hollywood to take on Speed Racer. I imagine Speed and Racer X will be some of the most sought after roles in recent years.
Gotta be a young or young-looking dark haired guy to play Speed. Keanu Reeves might be too old but he looks the part. Jackman is a good choice for Racer X. Sean Connery can play Pops and I vote for Angelina Jolie to play Trixie. Yeah, I've been thinking about a Speed Racer movie for a long time......
The Mach V is by far the greatest car ever built and if they do it right, it will look incredible on the big screen. Movie trailers can be highlights of the car's capabilities. They'd better get the sound effects right!!

I would love this. I was Speed Racer for Halloween last year. I hope they don't screw this up. It can't be Nascar, as Speed was always driving on International circuits in Grand Prix type races.

I remember seeing Vince Vaughn on Letterman a year or two ago talking about bringing Speed Racer to the theaters and that he was shooting for the Racer X role.
