Gracenote, an online-music company, is working on a new voice-recognition
system that could allow drivers to scan through a car-based music hard drive and play requested music. The company is
still developing the tool to recognize commands relating to music much like current navigation systems decipher
directions. While this article tackles the voice recognition aspect no one is pointing out that there aren’t car-based
hard drives yet. The closest we have are iPods. We’re still wondering why some aftermarket manufacturer hasn’t found a
way to read a memory card full of MP3s and store them on a hard drive. A normal stereo head unit is so big as is, you
might as well turn it into a hard drive. Think flip-down face revealing card readers instead of a CD slot.
