The 2018 Porsche 911 GT3
is an amazing machine. It’s a track-focused machine with a high-flying naturally aspirated engine, stiff suspension and a wing that looks like it would be more at home on a race car than an everyday sports coupe. Porsche seems to recognize that there’s a market for a more toned-down version. At this week’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the automaker is rolling out the Touring Package for the new GT3.

Simply, this is a 911 GT3 without the big rear wing and a manual transmission. Instead, it gets a smaller, retractable rear wing with a Gurney flap. The rest of the car carries over unchanged, not that it’s a bad thing. It still has the 4.0-liter flat-six churning out 500 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque. This is the last naturally aspirated car Porsche makes. For the refreshed 991.2 model, Porsche adds a wonderful six-speed manual to the option sheet. Porsche’s seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is not available. The car hits 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds.

The 911 GT3 with the Touring Package starts at $143,600, the same as the standard car. It comes with PASM suspension with adjustable camber, caster, toe, ride height and sway bars. Other standard features include rear-wheel steering, dynamic engine mounts, 20-inch center-lock wheels and sport seats. The tiny rear seats have been ditched to save weight.

Last week, we reported that Porsche was considering
building an unlimited run of a car in a similar vein to
the 911 R. This new GT3 with the Touring Package seems to fit that bill.
