Nissan raises prices on five 2006 models

While prices for domestic models are dropping like flies, the going rate for Japanese models are inching ever upward. Following Toyota’s lead, Nissan yesterday announced it is raising prices on the 2006 Sentra, Altima, Maxima, Armada and Titan. The MSRP for the Sentra and Altima rises by $200, the Maxima by $250, the Armada from $500 to $850 and the Titan from $300 to $650. The higher prices, at least for the Armada and Titan, reflect additional content and equipment like automatic dual-zone air conditioning, a 6 CD-MP3 capable audio system and a standard 60/40 fold-flat rear seat in the Armada. In our opinion the Altima price increase makes the most sense as it’s probably the best seller of the bunch and ranks right up there with its peers in terms of performance and utility. The Sentra needs to be retired right quick, the Maxima is being squeezed out by the Altima and Infiniti G35, and the Armada and Titan haven’t taken as much market share from the Big 3 as analyst thought they might. A price increase on these models hardly seems called for, you think?
