IBM helping automakers cut warranty costs

IBM has developed a new search technology called Unstructured Information Management Architecture (UIMA) that it hopes will help automakers cut rising warranty costs. The product will be marketed to automakers under the name of IBM Quality Insight for Automotive, and the technology will allow automakers to basically search the internet looking for customers complaining about problems with their vehicles. The faster automakers can identify these issues and fix them, the lower the expense of warranty repairs will go. What’s even cooler is that the technology can search blogs, so if you have an issue with your new car, start bitching about it in the comments and hopefully one of the automakers will find it. Good luck with that.
