Taking the old Mercedes “silver arrows” moniker to heart, Team McLaren Mercedes’ new livery for
2006 is… chrome!
Possibly swayed by Cadillac’s “Chrome Couture” fashion show TV commercial for
the chrome-festooned 2007 Escalade, McLaren Mercedes have evidently decided to take the next logical step, and chrome
the whole car.
Apparently, the new surface coating was developed by McLaren over the past six months and is
completely new to Formula 1 (if not to Hot Wheels). No word on whether the team will issue team-spec sunglasses to its
pit crew, but it looks like a natural sponsorship opportunity to me!
