Ford is recalling 1.9 million vehicles globally due to a rearview camera malfunction, adding to what has become a challenging year for the automaker. The company has issued over 100 recalls in 2025—more than any other manufacturer this year. The recall affects 1.45 million vehicles in the United States, 122,000 in Canada, and approximately 300,000 in other markets..

Hardware Issue Creates Safety Risk
This rearview camera recall differs from an earlier Ford recall issued in May, which involved software problems. The current issue stems from hardware failure that can cause the center display screen to go blank or show inverted or distorted images when the vehicle is in reverse, potentially increasing crash risk by obscuring the driver’s view.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford is aware of 18 accidents related to this defect, though none have resulted in injuries.
The recall represents another setback for Ford, which paid a $165 million civil penalty last November after an NHTSA investigation found the company had delayed previous rearview camera recalls and failed to comply with federal safety recall timelines.

Affected Models
The recall covers a wide range of Ford and Lincoln vehicles manufactured between 2015 and 2019, including:
· Ford Mustang (2015-2019)
· Ford Edge (2015-2018)
· Ford Ranger (2019)
· Ford Super Duty trucks, including F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 (2015-2019)
· Ford Transit and Transit Connect vans (2015-2019)
· Ford Expedition (2015-2017)
· Ford Econoline vans (2017-2019)
· Lincoln MKC (2015-2019)
· Lincoln Navigator (2015-2017)

Next Steps for Owners
Ford will contact affected customers by letter or phone to inform them of the recall. Authorized dealerships will inspect cameras and replace defective units at no charge to owners.
Separately, according to Reuters, Canadian parts supplier Magna International is recalling more than 250,000 rearview cameras used in certain Ford and Stellantis vehicles, based on a separate NHTSA report.
