Well, this should be nearly as offensive to German auto purists as the dude in this month’s Hot Rod who submitted a
picture of his Porsche 928 with a 6-71 and bug catcher sticking through the hood. A company/individual is offering a
$5800 kit to install a GM LS1/T56 combo into your E36 BMW 3-series. Given contents such as a wiring harness and custom
long-tube headers, the pricing looks about right. It’s being billed as a way to build a M3 killer, which is probably
accurate if the project car is given an adequate (read: extensive) level of suspension prep. To me, it seems like a
great use for a 318ti, and with the potential of 11-second
timeslips, you’ll probably have the best sleeper in town.
Engine swap heresy
