Gap
supervisors and Sears managers, watch out — car dealerships are trying to recruit your best and brightest female
employees. Asbury Automotive, a group that owns dealerships in Florida and Texas, will be hitting the mall to pass
along business cards, in an effort to find women interested in making double pay for an identical number of hours.
The timing is right, too — women influence an all-time high 81 percent of all new vehicle purchases, and the dealer
group is hoping that employing female sales staff will equate to more cars sold– not to
mention the potential for addressing historical gender inequality issues like ignoring or talking down
to female customers.
Asbury hopes to increase its female sales staff from the current 11 percent to 50 percent.
