China’s Chery Automobile Co. said Monday it will work with U.S. supplier Johnson Controls to improve Chery’s automotive interiors. Analysts say it’s a move by Chery to make its cars more competitive in the world (i.e. US) market.

The 50-50 operation will be located in China according to the Xinhua News Agency.

Improved interiors will go a long way toward breaking into the U.S. market either alone or with a U.S. company. Chery is currently in talks with Daimler-Chrysler about producing a subcompact for the Chrysler Group.

Johnson Controls is already in 10 joint ventures with Chinese automakers producing automotive interiors.
