Autoblog Rewrite Tweak 1.3.17 Most Expensive Cities to Buy A Used Car
The farther west you shop, the more expensive it is to secure a pre-owned car or truck, according to a study from CarGurus.
The study examined how local market conditions affect used car prices. The most affordable areas to buy were located in the eastern portion of the U.S., including cities such as Miami, Cleveland and New York City, where used cars sell for significantly below the national average. Conversely, the more expensive cities were located further west, with Reno, Albuquerque and Fresno seeing used cars transacting for well above the national average.
“Where you shop for your car can make a big difference in the prices you’ll find, so if you are motivated to save money it’s worth looking beyond your local area,” said Langley Steinert, founder and CEO of CarGurus.
Online used car shopping services like eBay and Autoblog make this easy to do, allowing consumers to search for used cars outside of their own geographic location, and then pick them up or have them shipped. Thus, if you’re looking for a good deal, it’s worth exploring listings in some of the cities CarGurus found to be the most affordable.
