If you, or someone you know, is an employee or retiree of Delphi or General Motors, this is for you. If you are
interested in the human impact of the restructuring of the auto industry, this is for you, too.
Democrats of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce have an e-hearing in progress –
The American Auto Industry in Crisis: The Threat to Middle-Class Jobs, Heath Care, and Pensions. (See our
earlier post here.) The objective is to collect
information from the people affected by the ongoing problems at Delphi, GM and the U.S. auto industry.
The e-hearing opened December 6, and was originally scheduled to close December 15, but because of the level of
interest it’s been extended to December 31.
So far, about 1,000 workers and retirees from at least 26 states have submitted e-testimony. If you are an employee or
retiree of Delphi or GM, let the committee hear what you think
here.
If anyone would like to see the testimony so far, look
here. In addition to workers and
retirees, testimony has also been submitted by state and local government officials, economists, union leaders, and
industry leaders – including GM’s CEO, Rick Wagoner (pdf file
here).
