Members of the popular website VWvortex.com were probably stunned to learn last month that one of the forum’s
contributors was actually Volkswagen of America chief Len Hunt. A thread dealing with why some VW faithful are leaving
the brand sparked a debate that led the exec to speak up on behalf of his brand. His action marks the first time an
auto exec has contributed to an independent forum. In a move that demonstrates the power of forums, Hunt also announced
that based partly on a discussion in which he participated on VWvortex.com, VW will be offering a five-door GTI model
in the U.S. a year after the three-door debuts.
