Former White House counsel C. Boyden Gray recently hosted a gathering designed as “presence marketing” to get the
word out about Maybach superluxury cars. Maybach’s brand manager Wayne Killen claims the events aren’t about making
deals, but rather to put the car in the company of people who might actually be able to afford it. The party at Gray’s
house wasn’t all about the Maybach— there was also Gray’s “architecturally significant” home to enjoy, plus Black Hawk
Down author Mark Bowden was on hand to inspire reckless ingratiation. Mercedes pays the hosts nothing for hosting the
parties. Gray, a partner in the law firm of Wilmer Cutler Pickering LLC, called the event “Way, way, 2 HYPE.”
