GPS device limits driver's speed

Wow, this really has a 1984-ish vibe to it. The government of Britain (the same fun-loving folks that popularized GATSO speed cameras and congestion taxes) is working on a GPS-based device that would limit a vehicle’s speed based on its geographical location. If the driver is determined to be in violation of the speed limit, the system will activate the vehicle’s brakes via its ABS. A six-month trial using modified Skoda Fabias has been completed, with the next step expected to be an offering of the system to London drivers looking for a discount on the aforementioned congestion tax. [Combine this plan with the satellite-based road tax schemes, and you can see how it would be no fun to be British
in this day and age. -RH]
