Finalizing the pending rule change yesterday, the NHRA has announced it’s ’05 amendment on A/Fuel cars in the Top
Alcohol Dragster (TAD) class. The Competition Committee will now restrict the usage of nitromethane to a maximum of 96%
for the injected-nitro dragsters. This is not the first of such regulation by the NHRA in an effort to maintain parity
between the nitro guzzlers and blown alcohol teams in the class. Last year, the Committee began to enforce displacement
and weight regulations but felt that further constraints were required due to the advancing innovation and improved
performance from A/Fuel teams. While stirring controversy within the TAD community, the Association has been threatened
with potential abandonment by a handful of teams, including the ’04 Champion Mitch Myers & EPHA Racing (pictured
above), who feel they’re being penalized for ingenuity.
