When temperatures outside are hot, it can feel unbearable in underventilated indoor spaces that trap the heat and humidity where you’d like it least. A portable air conditioner is the easiest to install solution to cooling and dehumidifying a garage, workshop, basement, or any other space that’s lacking an HVAC system. Right now, Walmart has a name brand portable air conditioner on sale with a hefty discount.
The GE 10,500-BTU Portable Air Conditioner is on sale for $329 at Walmart, 43% off its normal $579 price tag. That’s a very good price for an air conditioner with that kind of cooling power, and it’s even better when you consider that this unit also doubles as a fan and dehumidifier.
Rare DealPros
- Easy to control with a smartphone app or the included remote control
- Remote has its own LCD display showing current temperature setting
- Clever auto evaporation feature
Cons
- Very heavy so moving up and down stairs can be a challenge
- Some customers report that it could be quieter
A 10,500-BTU air conditioner is strong enough to cool a room as big as 450 square feet, which is roughly as big as a typical two-car garage. It installs easily in double-hung or sliding windows with the included installation kit, and its casters make it easy to move it where you need it. It has a washable filter, LED controls, WiFi connectivity, (for app control from anywhere) and a remote control. One unique feature is auto evaporation technology, in which the air conditioner can evaporate excess water in the unit, obviating the need to drain it.
One customer raved that this air conditioner “blew my mind” because after having it on “constantly for about a week I can say this is the quietest portable AC I have ever had.”
Another shopper called this an “amazing product” that “cools off the room well.” A third added that it’s a “great air conditioner” that’s “very easy to assemble and very powerful.”
