Overview
The 2027 Volvo XC90 luxury midsize SUV has been around for a decade now, but periodic refreshes and timeless Scandinavian design have kept it relevant, and it still looks very suave. It still seats six or seven across three rows and runs a Google-powered infotainment system nowadays. All powertrains employ a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine, 8-speed automatic transmission, and AWD. The 247-hp B5 and 295-hp B6 have a 48V mild-hybrid setup, while the 401-hp T8 is a plug-in hybrid capable of more than 30 miles of electric driving. Typical 3-row premium rivals include the Audi Q7, Lexus TX, and Lincoln Aviator.

What’s New for 2027
The 2027 XC90 Plus gets the Harman Kardon audio system as standard this year, and gains integrated sunshades. All powertrains now have access to a 22-inch wheel design as well, and a green Forest Lake hue is added to the paint palette. The T8 powertrain has been revised to improve efficiency at the expense of output, dropping from 455 hp/523 lb-ft to 401 hp/494 lb-ft. Last of all, Volvo has made it a little easier to get to the setting to disable the start/stop function on the B5 and B6.
The 2027 Volvo XC90’s price is expected to stay much the same, and should start below $62K.

Exterior
Unmistakably Volvo, the XC90 comes with stately, elegant proportions, a diagonally straked grille, and familiar Thor’s Hammer LED DRLs and headlights. Chrome is tastefully applied, but can be substituted for blacked-out trim via the Dark Theme package. Wheels start at 20 inches and go up to 22. At 195 inches long on a 117.5-inch wheelbase, the XC90 is one of the more compact 3-row premium SUVs.

Interior
The minimalist interior is constructed from high-quality materials and still looks lovely. Leatherette is standard, and Nappa leather arrives on the top trims. Six or seven are accommodated in three rows, but the third row is more suited to children. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 11.2-inch touchscreen are standard, with Google Built-in, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, and navigation. A 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system is standard on the Plus and Ultra trims.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Elegant, premium interior
- Three powertrains, including a PHEV
- Many standard safety features
- Complimentary maintenance included
Cons:
- Third row comfortably accommodates children only
- Engines lack refinement
- Cargo volume trails some rivals
- B5 feels underpowered
Verdict
Volvo has done enough to keep the XC90 competitive, despite the basic design going back some time now, and it’s still a suave 3-row SUV with lots of safety tech, modern infotainment, and a comfortable and classy interior. It’s best as a B6 Plus, giving you most of the niceties and decent performance for well less than than the T8. The rear seat isn’t the biggest and trunk space trails rivals, but the XC90 is still an excellent SUV in its segment if you prioritize quality, safety, and cabin ambience over outright space or performance intent.
