Overview

The 2025 Rivian R1T full-size electric pickup truck is mostly unchanged for 2025, its fourth model year, and still impresses with the way it brings practicality and innovative solutions to the electric truck segment. Its distinctive styling catches the eye, but it has substance too, with powerful dual- and tri-motor AWD powertrains that put out 533, 665, or 850 hp, depending on the trim. Ample ground clearance and adjustable air suspension make it adept off-road as well, and you get 220-kW DC charging capability and a range that tops out at 420 miles.

What’s New for 2025

Rivian introduces new in-house drive units, revised battery packs that go from lithium-ion to lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry, and a new electrical architecture that sheds 44 pounds in wiring and cuts the number of computer modules required from 17 to seven. A new heat-pump climate system is designed to improve efficiency in cold conditions. The 850-hp Tri-Motor version joins the lineup, while software and driver-assistance systems receive major updates, and the air suspension is refined to provide better ride comfort.

The infotainment system gains faster processing and additional connectivity features. Besides the newly introduced Ascend trim, Rivian introduces the California Dune Edition. This version is based on the Tri-Motor model and comes with mounting boards, a stronger power tonneau cover, and available rally-style wheels. It gets sand-colored California Dune paintwork (which can be extended to the 20-inch wheels) and a standard All-Terrain package. The interior comes in an upper Black Mountain and lower Sandstone color scheme.

Some of the numerous smaller range-wide improvements include more interior lighting themes, Google Pixel and Apple Wallet digital key compatibility, beam-adaptive headlights, a new Storm Blue paint choice, an electronically tintable glass roof, Connect+ YouTube and Google Cast video streaming, and an improved wireless device charger.

Exterior

The 2025 R1T keeps the automaker’s signature front-end design, with oval headlight elements connected by a full-width light bar and a clean profile. Buyers can choose between 21- and 22-inch wheels, while off-road setups include 20-inch all-terrain tires. The adjustable air suspension allows the truck to lower for highway driving or rise for added ground clearance.

The R1T measures 217.1 inches in length, rides on a 135.8-inch wheelbase, spans 79.0 inches in width without the mirrors, and stands up to 78.2 inches tall. These dimensions place it between midsize and full-size pickups, offering a balanced footprint without sacrificing presence. The 4.5-foot bed and integrated Gear Tunnel provide flexible and secure cargo solutions.

Interior

The cabin focuses on a minimalist layout dominated by a 15.6-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch driver display. However, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available because Rivian relies on its native software ecosystem. Materials and design place the R1T closer to premium SUVs than traditional pickups.

Thanks to its flat floor and upright cabin design, the 2025 R1T can comfortably accommodate five people. It comes with many storage solutions, including a frunk, multiple interior compartments, and the Rivian-exclusive 11.7-cu-ft Gear Tunnel between the cab and bed. In addition, the bed provides 29.2 cu-ft of cargo space.
