Overview
The 2027 Lexus TZ is an electric midsize 3-row luxury SUV twinned with the Toyota Highlander EV and Subaru Getaway. It’s the first 3-row Lexus EV, and adds a third electric Lexus after the ES EV midsize sedan and RZ compact crossover. It gets the full Lexus treatment, with a more upscale cabin, more extensive sound insulation, and additional comfort features.
It comes with standard Direct4 AWD, a choice of 76.96- or 95.82-kWh battery sizes, and an estimated range of around 300 miles on the big battery. The TZ is meant for eco-conscious families looking for a quiet and refined electric SUV in the premium segment.

Lexus
What’s New for 2027
The 2027 TZ is new to the Lexus lineup and the brand’s first electric 3-row SUV. It’s the Lexus version of the electric Toyota Highlander and Subaru Getaway, and was revealed in May 2026, ahead of its official on-sale date later in 2026. The TZ debuts the Lexus “Driving Lounge” concept, pairing the brand’s signature driving feel with lounge-like comfort. It comes with the Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 suite and a driver-selected Rear Comfort mode that smooths acceleration and braking, while limiting body motion for greater passenger serenity. The “Hey, Lexus” assistant has been improved, and EV features include an EV range map and EV routing.

Lexus
Exterior
The TZ’s design is futuristic and quite dramatic, following the Lexus Provocative Simplicity philosophy, but smoothing off the shape to achieve a 0.27 Cd drag coefficient. The front features a shield-style spindle grille panel, H-shaped trim outlining the grille, C-shaped LED headlights, and a squared-off bumper. Flattened fender flares and black pillars feature along the side, while the modern rear end has a light bar and L-shaped bumper trim. A panoramic roof is fitted.

Interior
The very tech-forward cabin, built around the Driving Lounge concept, is luxurious, with a tiered dashboard, a recessed 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and a 14-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and touch-capacitive controls below it. The floating center console houses a stubby shifter, and eco-friendly materials abound. Dynamic door lighting and a panoramic glass roof make all three rows feel airy. The standard amenities are present, but ventilated seats and power ottomans are also available, as is 21-speaker Mark Levinson audio.

Charging
The TZ is built around a 400-volt electrical architecture, and though official charging speeds and times have not been provided yet, reports suggest that the large battery can be replenished from 10-80% in around 35 minutes at the maximum DC charging speed. Vehicle-to-load capability is provided, enabling owners to use the TZ as a power source via a rear-mounted AC outlet.
Performance and 0-60 MPH
No official performance figures have been provided, but the TZ is expected to accelerate to 60 MPH in a touch over 5.0 seconds courtesy of the 402-hp powertrain. Torque response is instant, but the Rear Comfort mode smooths out braking, acceleration, and suspension motion for a more serene ride. Available rear-axle steering aids maneuverability and stability and reduces the standard car’s turning radius from 19 feet to 17.2 feet.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Lexus’ first 3-row EV
- Standard Direct4 AWD
- Luxurious, quiet Driving Lounge cabin
- Premium tech, including 21-speaker Mark Levinson audio
- Passenger-focused serenity mode
Cons:
- Pricing not yet official
- Torque, range, and charging not released
- Range and power are estimates, not EPA-certified
Verdict
The TZ is a welcome addition to the electric Lexus lineup, giving the brand a rival in the popular 3-row midsize space to take on the Cadillac Vistiq and Volvo EX90. It comes with the expected upscale Lexus cabin, but adds even more comfort in the shape of the Rear Comfort mode, along with additional sound insulation for a serene ride, so it should be one of the most pampering entries in this segment.
The Direct4 AWD and 402-hp output should ensure grip and decent performance, but we have to wait for the official torque and performance figures to see how it stacks up against rivals. With an expected range of 300 miles and vehicle-to-load capability, it looks like a promising new entry, though we reserve final judgment until the official specs and pricing are released.
