Overview
The 2025 GMC Hummer EV SUV is a full-size electric SUV that comes in two trims, both built around GM’s Ultium-based electric powertrain with standard all-wheel drive and air suspension tuned for serious off-road work. Electronic four-wheel steering, including the CrabWalk diagonal drive mode, and Extract Mode suspension lift of approximately six inches, set this apart from every other electric SUV in the segment. At a weight approaching 9,000 pounds, efficiency is not this vehicle’s argument. The Hummer EV SUV appeals to buyers who want the segment’s most capable off-road EV.
What’s New for 2025?
The 2025 Hummer EV SUV enters the year with a trimmed lineup. GMC discontinues the base EV2, establishing the 2X as the new entry trim and raising the starting price accordingly. The limited-production Omega Edition offered in 2024 does not return for this model year.
Two new exterior colors join the palette with Solar Orange and Graphite Blue Metallic, bringing the total to six options. No powertrain, suspension, or technology changes accompany the 2025 model year, and the vehicle otherwise carries over from its 2024 introduction.
Exterior
The Hummer EV SUV’s boxy silhouette and cliff-faced bodywork make no concession to aerodynamic efficiency, consistent with the vehicle’s purpose. A full-width front light bar connects the headlight clusters, and H-illuminated taillights anchor the rear. Both 2X and 3X trims run 22-inch painted aluminum wheels as standard, wrapped in all-terrain tires.
A separate 22-inch premium-finish painted aluminum wheel is optional on the 2X, while the 3X includes it as standard. The optional Extreme Off-Road Package replaces standard wheels with 18-inch aluminum units shod in mud-terrain tires, adding skid plates, front and rear e-lockers, and rocker protectors with assist steps.

Interior
Leatherette bucket seats with heating and ventilation are standard on both trims, as are 12-way power adjustment for both driver and front passenger, a heated steering wheel, and tri-zone automatic climate control. A 12.3-inch color Driver Information Center is joined by a 13.4-inch center touchscreen that handles infotainment, drive-mode settings, and off-road readouts, including pitch, roll, and eLocker status.
A 14-speaker Bose audio system with the Electric Vehicle Sound Enhancement feature is standard across the lineup and adds drive-mode-specific acoustic feedback. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto pair with a standard wireless charging pad. Rear legroom of 39.0 inches is adequate but not class-leading for a vehicle of this footprint.

Price Range and Best Value Trim
The 2025 GMC Hummer EV SUV’s price range spans $8,100 across two trims. The 2X is the stronger value, delivering 570 hp, standard all-terrain tires, all-wheel drive, and the full standard feature set, with Watts to Freedom launch control available as an option rather than requiring the step up to the 3X.

Pros and Cons
Pros
- CrabWalk and Extract Mode lead the off-road EV segment
- 315-mile EPA-estimated range from a 200-kWh battery
- 800V architecture supports up to 300 kW DC fast charging
Cons
- 52-53 MPGe combined is among the lowest in the EV segment
- Starting price exceeds the federal EV tax credit eligibility threshold
- MT tires further reduce combined efficiency to 47-48 MPGe
Verdict
Dropping the EV2 trim for 2025 narrows the Hummer EV SUV to two configurations, with the 2X absorbing the entry-level role at a higher starting point than the discontinued base. The core case for this vehicle has not changed, as no electric SUV in the segment matches the combination of CrabWalk four-wheel diagonal steering, Extract Mode ground clearance, e-locker availability, and a tri-motor output of 830 hp. However, the combined MPGe on the 2X and 3X place it at the bottom of the EV efficiency table, and the interior materials do not match the pricing of competitors like the Rivian R1S or the Mercedes-Benz G 580 EQ.
