Overview
The 2027 BMW M Touring luxury high-performance station wagon lives in a dwindling class, as there will be no 2027 models of the Audi RS6 Avant, Porsche Cayenne Cross Turismo, or even the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing sedan, leaving the Mercedes-AMG 53 E-Class Wagon as the only sporty long-roof car left. It returns with the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain with a 14.8-kWh battery back, good for 717 hp and a 0-60 sprint in a blistering 3.5 seconds. Yet, it’s a practical wagon with nearly 60 cu-ft of total cargo space on offer, and it can go 25 miles on electricity alone.

What’s New for 2027
The 2027 M5 Touring will undergo no changes this year, as it’s still fresh after its 2025 debut.
Exterior
The M5 Touring looks angry, with big, semi-closed-off kidney grilles, a black lower bumper insert with big air intakes, and darkened M Shadoline LED headlights. Along the sides, bulging arches filled with staggered 20/21-inch front-rear wheels, black power-folding mirrors, M side gills, and an aerodynamic body kit dominate the profile.Â
Blacked-out Extended Shadowline trim is applied, and other standard fitments include a Sky Lounge Panoramic Roof, an M rear spoiler, LED taillights, a 2-piece rear diffuser, and quad exhausts. Options include the BMW Iconic Glow illuminated grille, carbon-ceramic brakes, and additional carbon-fiber exterior parts like a fuel-filler cap, sharkfin antenna cover, exhaust shrouds, mirror caps, and rear fins.

Interior
Standard features abound in the luxurious interior, including heated power front seats, Extended Merino leather upholstery (including the instrument panel), aluminum trim, a wireless charging pad, a head-up display, a leather-trimmed M steering wheel, tri-zone climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a garage-door opener, and a power liftgate. The second row is spacious enough for full-grown humans, and the trunk takes up to 57.6 cu-ft of cargo with the rear seats folded.
The M-specific BMW Operating System 8.5 runs the BMW Curved Display in-car tech suite, which incorporates a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 14.9-inch touchscreen behind a single pane. System features include wireless smartphone integration, multiple drive modes, navigation, and 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio. Extra-cost packages add features like ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and more driver aids.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- 717-hp PHEV V8 and 3.5-second 0-60
- One of the last performance wagons available
- 57.6 cu-ft of total cargo space
- M xDrive switchable to RWD
- 25 miles of electric-only range
Cons:
- Poor 13 MPG combined on gas only
- Poor 270-mile total range
- Curb weight of more than 5,500 pounds
- Ride can be too firm for daily use
- Complex drive modes require familiarization
Verdict
The BMW M5 Touring is an intimidating piece of kit, all 5,500-odd pounds of it. Its 717-hp powertrain’s ability to bludgeon its continent-crushing weight to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds defies physics, yet the M adaptive suspension and M xDrive with selectable RWD mode keep the M genes in sharp focus if you have the private space to indulge in some hooliganism.Â
Yet, it does all the practical wagon things you’d expect, and can transport two rows of humans and their luggage if you need it to. With the demise of the Audi RS6 Avant, the M5 Touring is the only wagon left on our market with supercar performance, and if you have $125K to spend on a fast wagon, it’s now your only choice.
