The 2026 Volvo XC90 in a Nutshell
Believe it or not, the Volvo XC90 has been around for nearly 25 years. And yet, after almost a quarter-century, only two generations have been made. Making its world premiere in 2002, it became a smash hit for Volvo, so much so that it eventually spawned the smaller XC60 that’s now the Swedish brand’s best-selling model of all time.
The current XC90 is no spring chicken, either. That was debuted in 2015, but it’s undergone several major facelifts in the past decade. Its most recent major update was for the 2025 model year, and it’s the model’s most comprehensive refresh to date. Yes, there’s the all-electric EX90, but that’s a separate model from the XC90 and not merely a battery-powered version of it.
One can choose among three trim levels for the XC90, along with three powertrain choices. Prices range from $62,345 to S84,695.

2026 Volvo XC90 Lease Deals for December
To sweeten the deal, Volvo is offering zero-down lease deals for select XC90 trims this month. Models include the Plus B5, Plus B6, and even the Plus T8 Plug-in Hybrid, so these aren’t the base models, either. With that, it’s $689 for 36 months for the Plus B5, $675 for 36 months for the Plus B6 (yes, it’s cheaper), and $925 for the Plus T8 PHEV.
Of course, there’s still the option to put money down. For the Plus B5, it’s $2,960 for $599 per month, while the Plus B6 is $3,220 for $579 per month. As for the Plus T8, that would be $3,540 due at signing for $819 per month.
What’s the catch? You’re capped at 7,500 miles per year instead of the usual 10,000, and there’s a charge of $0.25 for every mile beyond that. This offer is valid until January 2, 2026.

2026 Volvo XC90 Highlights
The XC90 lineup kicks off with the Core that already throws in a panoramic sunroof standard, along with wireless charging and phone integration, and heaps of driver assists. This is a Volvo, after all. Move up to the Plus, the main subject of this deal, and that adds 360-degree cameras, park assist, and 21-inch wheels. As for the Ultra, that one comes with a Harman Kardon surround sound system, a head-up display, and that crystal gear selector, among other things.
Moving to the powertrain department, B5 and B6-powered XC90s use a turbocharged 2.0-liter with mild-hybrid tech, each with different outputs. The B5 puts out 247 hp and 266 lb-ft, while the B6 bumps that up to 295 hp and 310 lb-ft. As for the T8, it adds a rear electric motor and an 18.8 kWh battery to give it a combined figure of 455 hp.

Final Thoughts
It’s a Volvo, so of course, the XC90 has the IIHS’ seal of approval with a Top Safety Pick+ award. If safety is your utmost priority in a premium midsize crossover, the XC90 should be at the top of your list. But aside from safety, the XC90 offers a smooth and refined ride while coddling its occupants in its airy interior. It gets three-row seating, too, further boosting its practicality. On top of that, Volvo offers a complimentary maintenance service for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.
The XC90 may be aging, but it’s aging gracefully.
