The 2025 Lexus GX in a Nutshell

Luxury crossovers are nice and all, but there are those who’d like something plush that offers true off-road capabilities. That’s where the Lexus GX comes in, and it’s been doing that for nearly 25 years now. Introduced in 2002, the GX serves as the luxury version of the Prado, which is now in America as the “downsized” Land Cruiser.

The third-generation GX premiered in 2023 for the 2024 model year, finally replacing the previous model that ran for 14 years. It’s boxier than its predecessor, taking on a more daring and adventurous look. Given it’s still a fresh model, there aren’t many in the way of changes, although it now gets a power-adjustable steering adjuster standard.

2025 Lexus GX Lease Deals for December

Lexus really wants it to be a December to remember by offering tempting lease deals (and more) on all its models, the GX included. For the midsize SUV, it’s the Premium trim that gets a special offer this month. It can be leased for $779 for 36 months with $5,999 due at signing.

It’s a low-mileage lease at 10,000 miles per year. That means a charge of $0.25 for every mile that exceeds that, which is par for the course. Offer is valid until January 5, 2026.

2025 Lexus GX Highlights

In terms of trim levels, there are six to choose from in the GX. It starts with the Premium and Premium+, followed by the Luxury and Luxury+. It’s then topped off by the off-road-oriented Overtrail and Overtrail+. Starting with the Premium, it already comes with niceties such as Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, wireless phone integration, and a power tailgate. The Premium+ adds a 360-degree camera, heated second-row outboard seats, and a surround-view monitor.

Move up to the Luxury, and it gets 22-inch wheels standard, plus massaging front seats and semi-aniline leather seats. The Luxury+ then gains power running boards, panoramic sunroof, and a 21-speaker Mark Levinson sound system. As for the Overtrail, it gets unique exterior cosmetics, along with skid plates, all-terrain tires, and a rear differential lock. The Overtrail+ enhances that by adding massaging front seats and rear seat heaters.

But regardless of trim, all are powered by the 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6 like its big brother, the LX. It’s good for 349 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. Permanent four-wheel drive is standard, and prices range from $66,935 to $82,045.

Final Thoughts

Why buy the Lexus GX over the Land Cruiser? Well, it’s the only way to get a V6-powered Land Cruiser and, to some extent, 4Runner these days. That said, that engine has had hiccups, but Lexus claims it mainly affects the 2024 model year GXs. It’s worth pointing out that the same turbocharged block is used in the LS, and that’s unaffected by the machining debris recall.

Still, it’s worth a shot for those who want a luxury off-roader without a solid alternative to the Land Rover Defender. If you don’t mind scratching the paint, the GX can, and will, go far off the beaten path.
