Maserati mayhem

Maserati found itself in the unfortunate position of undergoing a major overhaul while simultaneously launching a new supercar, the sort of thing that normally defines a brand. As a result, the MC20 (an acronym for Maserati Corse 2020) was delayed from an intended May 2020 release to September of that same year.

Despite that slight setback, as well as leaks the year before about a new powertrain being tested for a new supercar, the launch was a success, with the convertible Cielo (Italian for ‘sky’ or ‘heavens’) being offered in 2022. The MC20 is still being produced today, although in 2025 the name was altered to the Maserati MCPura. This particular MC20 Cielo has only had one owner and is now at auction over on Bring A Trailer.

You just can’t beat Italian styling

This 2023 MC20 has been coated in a bright, almost blue-hued Grigio Incognito and includes the Exterior Carbon Fiber package, which means the hood, front splitter, and rear diffuser inserts are all carbon fiber, as are the black-tipped exhaust pipes poking out the back. Two deep grooves have been carved out to either side of the hood, while the trident Maserati logo, painted silver, sits over the black oval grille.

The deep cut-outs for the headlights frame them nicely, while in the back, LED taillights sit in elongated housings. The doors open in a dihedral arrangement, which is always a head-turner, while a powered, folding electrochromic glass roof panel with LED lighting encloses the cabin at the push of a button. Oversized 20″ ‘birdcage’ wheels have been given a coat of Glossy Dark Miron and are shod with Bridgestone tires, with blue-painted calipers featuring prominently underneath.

Putting the ‘super’ in supercar

A special two-toned Blu and Nero upholstery has been used on the heated and power-adjustable racing seats, with some very intricate patterns of the Nero on top and Blu poking through underneath. An extra bit of style also shows through in the Maserati tridents embroidered on the headrests. Carbon-fiber accents over black cover the door panels, dashboard, center console, and carpeting. The rearview ‘mirror’ is actually a digital display hooked up to a rearview camera, and there are also parking sensors, blind-spot sensors, and a proper rearview camera.

All of that is connected to a 10.25″ touchscreen with in-built navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and the Maserati Intelligent Assistant. Audio is provided by a Sonus Faber sound system, and wireless device charging is also available. A tri-spoke, Alcantara-clad steering wheel features paddle shifters and other tactile buttons, as well as a silver-on-black Maserati trident roundel. Instead of analog gauges, a configurable 10.25″ digital gauge cluster has been installed for maximum customization.

When two turbos are better than one

A rear-mounted Nettuno 3.0L (183ci) V6 engine has been fitted with not just one but twin turbochargers and is factory-rated to deliver 621 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque. All of that power is pushed to the rear wheels by way of an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transaxle, which combines the transmission, differential, and rear axles into one assembly.

Blue-painted calipers with ventilated, cross-drilled rotors provide superior stopping power for all four wheels, and handling is further enhanced by launch control and a double-wishbone suspension with active dampers. The odometer reads a mere 786 miles, making this effectively a brand-new engine and chassis.

Final thoughts: A modern supercar at a potentially steep discount

The Maserati MC20 is a masterpiece of both artistry and engineering, the kind of machine that few people will ever own, and that makes a statement wherever it goes. This one’s been given a Carbon-Fiber package that, depending on how you price it, is an almost $40,000 value just on its own.

Right now, the auction has only a few days left and is still well under the original purchase cost of this Maserati, with little to no wear or use on the chassis or engine to shorten its road-life. If you are looking for a great price on a supercar, then definitely place a bid before this offer speeds out of sight!
