Last of its generation
The Pontiac GTO is a legendary American muscle car produced for a whopping five generations. The first generation lasted three years, from the 1964 debut through 1967, while the second was the longest, with a four-year stint between 1968 and 1972. The third encompassed only one year, 1973, and the fourth generation in 1974 was merely an option for the Pontiac Ventura. A fifth generation saw the GTO revamped between 2004 and 2006, but while the name was shared, almost nothing else was really held in common with its predecessors.
That means this 1967 GTO is counted as the last of the original version of the GTO, with all the advantages of having previous models work out some of the kinks and complications, while still holding true to the classic feel of the muscle car that, some argue, started the idea of muscle cars to begin with. This 1967 Pontiac GTO with less than 4,000 miles on the odometer and a near-mint original interior is available on Exotic Car Trader, and you can see the full listing by clicking here.

Smooth as butter, strong as steel
The Pontiac GTO cuts an almost imposing figure from any angle. Big, boxy, and unapologetically American in aesthetic, it is the perfect encapsulation of everything American muscle. This two-door sedan is exquisitely preserved, with a fresh coat of dark red draped over every panel and curve. Mirrored grill grates narrow at the point where they nearly touch and widen slightly towards the ends, while quad-stacked headlights show off classic American design. More noteworthy, perhaps, are the not two, not four, but eight taillights, stacked on top of each other in sets of four.

Everything’s just right
The interior of this GTO is exactly as it should be. Everything appears to be original or replaced with original considerations in mind. The tri-spoke steering wheel is a smooth, light wood that is contrasted by the aftermarket red carbon fiber on the dashboard. The bulk of the interior is black leather and carpeting, though that lovely deep red has found ample space to splash some color in, alongside silver styling elements.
The 1967 GTO saw several mandated safety features added as a first for the GTO line, including a collapsible steering wheel with an energy-absorbing steering column and a more padded dash.

It had to be a V8
The classic engine for something like this GTO is a V8, namely a 6.6-liter beast that features a rather interesting TH-400 transmission that is both automatic and yet able to be driven as a three-speed manual, thanks to the Hurst performance ‘his/hers’ dual-gate shifter.
Power is sent to the rear wheels, with stylish twin exhausts on this particular model. Much like the safety requirements that were first added to the interior in 1967, the same year saw mandatory four-way emergency flashers added, as well as a dual reservoir brake cylinder with a backup circuit to ensure braking even if something went wrong. With 3,862 on the odometer, this engine is either a rebuild or true mileage unknown, and something to ask of the seller if you are interested.

Final thoughts: A ferocious beast with a pedigree
The Pontiac GTO is one of, if not the, original American Muscle cars, and has a long and storied past, beloved by collectors and historians alike. There is plenty of power under the hood, plenty of swagger between the bumpers, and plenty of comfort in the cabin to enhance any drive.
This particular model is beautifully maintained with a gorgeous and distinctive deep red on the outside, and its original luster and shine on the inside. That makes it the perfect car for a nice, long cruise or to take out for a night on the town.
