An Iconic Shape

Sometimes, all you need is an outline to define a car. The design of the C2 Corvette can easily be called one of the most beautiful shapes to ever come out of the ’60s, and we all know that there were a lot of greats that came out that decade. It was made in an era where design wasn’t limited by regulations, allowing stylists greater creative liberties when it came to turning sketches into reality.

Whether it’s a split-window or a fixed window, coupe or convertible, the C2 Corvette is a looker. Don’t call it a muscle car, though, as it was designed to be a pure sports car.

The Backstory

The C2 Corvette was, by all means, almost infinitely configurable. You had a wide variety of color and upholstery choices, along with a great number of selectable engines. That also means market values vary greatly. For instance, a late-model big-block C2 can go for over $114,000, based on Classic.com’s valuations. That will also depend on condition, mileage, and originality

With that, we’re not expecting the one we spotted on Bring a Trailer to go for earth-shattering prices. It’s not totally original, and the true mileage is unknown because of a new set of gauges, although it has an interesting engine mod. This 1967 Chevrolet Corvette convertible rolled off the St. Louis, Missouri assembly line on May 23, 1967, sporting red paint and a black top. Quite a lot had changed since it left the factory, and before this current auction, it actually went up for sale on BaT with even more mods.

The current seller has since made it look closer to stock, and a good number of parts have been replaced. But the highlight here is the 468ci swap, and while we don’t know the power figures, we wouldn’t be too surprised if it made close to 500 hp. After all, the 427ci L88 engine made 430hp, and that was a conservative estimate.

Why it’s Special

Obviously, it’s not one for the purists, but this example was brought back to stock in terms of its exterior. And while it won’t be prized like a numbers-matching C2, that also means it’ll be much cheaper than one. For the person who likes to take their classics out without worrying too much about market values, this might be the ticket. There’s the bonus of that 468 swap, too.
