A nickel for your thoughts
Corvette is a nameplate that needs no introduction, as it’s been iconic since its introduction in 1953. It is the oldest sports car still in production, though it has changed a great deal in these eight generations. This C1 Corvette is rather special, though, in that it comes with a factory-standard, high-performance Rochester fuel-injection system. With only a few thousand C1 Fuelies ever built between 1957 and 1962, this is a very collectible and special Corvette indeed.
This vehicle has documentation to indicate single ownership from purchase in 1960 through to 1995, and has been the recipient of several awards and recognitions since then, including the Bloomington Gold Certification, Gold Survivor Certificate of Historic Preservation, NCRS Top Flight, and the MCACN Triple Diamond award. If that wasn’t enough to sweeten the deal, the seller has promised to include the 1960-minted nickel that they found under the gas pedal.

Marooned but not left behind
The lovely shade of red on today’s feature is Maroon, with the coves on either side coated in Ermine White. The grille is thick, with a wide grating that blends seamlessly with the bumperettes on either side. Two chrome bumperettes can also be found on the back. For covering up, one is spoiled for choice, with both a body-color hard top and a white soft top included in the sale. C1 signature double headlights can be found up front, while two exhausts poke through the rear bumpers. Rubber meets the road with 15″ steel wheels and spinner covers, shod in bright whitewall tires.

A classic all-black interior
A pair of bucket seats trimmed in black vinyl is matched by a black dash, black door panels, and black carpeting. A dash-mounted mirror is a nice retro touch, while the lap belts provide a bit of ‘modern’ safety equipment. The original Wonder Bar radio is still installed, though the seller indicates that the seeker function is no longer functional. A black-rimmed, tri-spoke steering wheel features stylish holes punched out of each spoke. Behind the wheel sits the C1’s signature sweeping speedometer, which runs from 0-160 mph, as well as a tachometer that redlines at 7,000 rpm. There are also auxiliary gauges for fuel, coolant, amperage, and oil.

The fuel-injection that makes it a “Fuelie”
The main event on this C1 Corvette is the Rochester mechanical fuel-injection on the 283ci (4.6L) V8. The engine was originally rated for 290 horsepower and has that signature Corvette throaty rumble. All of that power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission linked to a Positraction limited-slip differential. Independent front suspension and rear leaf springs are factory standard, while the brakes are said to have been redone by the seller in 2025. True mileage is unknown, but the odometer reads 91,000 miles, with 25,000 from current ownership.

Final thoughts: An award-winning and rare opportunity
Corvettes, especially C1s, are great for those looking to expand their collections. They hold value, look amazing, and their timeless styling still turns heads today. How much more collectible, then, is this rare Fuelie version of those beloved sports cars, one that has won several awards and remains in great condition? If you’re still on the fence, don’t forget that 1960 nickel that’s included as part of the sale. You can check out the auction here, but once it’s sold, it might well be gone for good!
