David Brown Automotive to reveal new Project 2 this spring

The David Brown Automotive Speedback GT is a beautiful bespoke piece of British machinery. As impressive as it may be, at $753,000, it's far out of the reach of most consumers. To expand the brand's reach, Brown and his team announced that they're working on a second model, known internally as Project 2, that will debut sometime this spring.

Details about the Project 2 are scarce. The car will slot below the Speedback GT, but that leaves a lot of room for interpretation. The new model will be build at David Brown Automotive's new 18,000-square-foot headquarters in Silverstone, England. Like the Speedback GT, which is based on the old Jaguar XKR, the Project 2 will be a highly worked-over version of an existing road car. Expect 100 cars a year, in addition to the current Speedback GT production.

The teaser image shows a pair of retro helmets, so don't be surprised if this is a new take on the classic British roadster. Look for more details in the coming months leading up to a on-sale date of September.
