Ford GT racer is the sound of good things to come in 2016

The year ahead, we hope, will bring with it many good things. But few may have racing fans as excited as the debut of the new Ford GT. And to hear it doing its thing in this latest video, it ought to provide more than its fair share of aural excitement in the racing season to come.

Not only will the second-generation Ford GT hit the streets as a supercar – and one of the fastest road-going vehicles Dearborn has ever devised – but it has also bread a racing version. Together with Chip Ganassi Racing, Ford will field four racing versions of the new EcoBoost-powered supercars next season: two in the IMSA SportsCar Championship, and two in the FIA World Endurance Championship. While the latter won't begin until April at Silverstone, the former will kick off the racing season with the 24 Hours of Daytona a mere month from now.

Before it does, the Ford Chip Ganassi Racing team will be at Daytona for the Roar Before the Rolex 24 – the test session that precedes the race each season and scheduled to take place just over a week from now on January 8.
