Mahindra Reva has been making slow and steady waves with the all-electric E2O city car, taking the previous Reva model – the G-Wiz – into the modern age with the production version of the Reva NXR concept.
The E2O has a range of just 62 miles from its lithium-ion batteries, and recharges in five hours. The E2O is connected to a smartphone app, and has Reva's patented REVive technology, which means, "In the rare event of running low on charge, you can use the app on the smart phone to remotely activate the reserve energy that can get you going again." No, the phone doesn't charge your phone. Instead, the connected car can unlock a bit of reserve power when it's absolutely necessary. Fans of the Think City – and Lego – will appreciate the ABS (plastic) body panels. We're most impressed with where Mahindra found room for the spare tire. If you don't have an engine taking up space, might as well stuff some rubber there, right? The E2O will cost 5.96 lakhs (around $11,000 US, after local subsidies) and the car goes on sale this month. Mahindra says it can make up to 30,000 units a year.
