If there's anything more entertaining than watching a B-segment car bash its way through the woods, we don't want to know about it. Good for us, then, that Opel revealed a competition version of its Adam at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

The Adam R2 Rally Concept is designed to conform to FIA R2 regulations and boasts a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with 185 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque. While technically a concept, Opel says it will work to homologate the hatch. Once done, buyers will be able to compete in any number of international rally events.

So far, Opel has built 40 of the machines for competition in France in Germany, and the whole lot has been sold already. There's no word on how much the production models will cost buyers when the bow, but you can check out the full Opel release below for more information.

Rüsselsheim/Geneva. With a new CEO and four world premieres Opel has sent a clear message of confidence at the press conference at this year's Geneva Motor Show (public visitor days March 7 – 17). Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann, at the helm of the company since March 1, says, "I am proud to present the strongest model portfolio the brand has ever had. Our four world premieres all make powerful statements about our ability to build exciting, innovative and beautiful cars. They are proof that we are writing a true comeback story here." Neumann revealed the new mid-size class Cascada convertible, the urban crossover concept ADAM ROCKS, the rallye concept ADAM R2 and the Zafira Tourer 1.6 CDTI at the Opel stand at Geneva Palexpo, Hall 2, Booth 2231.

Dr. Neumann continues, "Opel is committed to a multi-billion euro product offensive with 23 new cars and 13 new engines through 2016. With the new products and numerous brand initiatives, Opel will be a strong major player in the automotive world. We have a clear plan of action to bring the brand back to the greatness it deserves".

Unveiled on stage, the new Opel Cascada is a 4.70 meter-long, elegant mid-size class convertible – and the only mid-size convertible from a mainstream manufacturer. A classic four-seater with an elongated silhouette and sophisticated soft-top technology, it boasts premium open-air driving pleasure at a very attractive price. Cascada's electric soft top can be opened at the press of a button and at driving speeds of up to 50 km/h in just 17 seconds - or also via remote control when the car is stationary. With its outstanding load capacity of up to 380 liters and FlexFold rear seat system, the all-season convertible shows that glamour and everyday practicality are perfectly compatible. Sharpest driving capabilities are ensured by the extremely rigid body, the HiPerStrut front suspension and the adaptive mechatronic FlexRide chassis system.

The new 1.6 CDTI ECOTEC is the cleanest diesel engine in the company's history and part of a new family of state-of-the-art four cylinder turbo diesel engines. Neumann stated that these "mark the beginning of Opel's new powertrain offensive with 13 new engines within 4 years". It is now presented in the Zafira Tourer, which is equipped with Opel "BlueInjection" SCR (selective catalytic reduction) technology and already meets future stringent Euro 6 emissions limits. In the Zafira Tourer, the new generation 1.6 CDTI ECOTEC unit delivers 100 kW/136 hp and 320 Nm of torque, together with outstanding combined cycle fuel efficiency of just 4.1 l/100 km and very low emission levels of only 109 g/km CO2. No other compact monocab on the market offers such a great combination of high torque and performance (with a maximum speed of 193 km/h) and fuel economy.

With the ADAM ROCKS Concept, Opel is exploring new ways of further enhancing ADAM's individualization with this new three-door, urban mini-crossover study. With its muscular proportions, fierce design and an open-air capability, the 3.7 meter-long ADAM ROCKS opens the door to a new market segment. The ADAM ROCKS concept has been created for those seeking personal freedom "off the beaten track". Inspired by parkour athletes, it features a higher and wider stance as well as an especially powerful, compact appearance. The ADAM ROCKS' special feeling of personal freedom is further emphasized by its cabrio looks and a fabric roof that offers a clear view of the sky above. A weather app automatically initiates closing of the roof if adverse weather is approaching. Neumann was enthusiastic about this extra cool touch: "Yes, this ADAM truly ROCKS!"

Opel's individualization champion ADAM is the best connected small car on the market. The ADAM Limited Edition, featuring Siri Eyes Free, presented today in Geneva once again underlined this. This intelligent assistant helps ADAM owners to get things done – they simply have to ask. The ADAM's IntelliLink infotainment system will be available with support for Siri Eyes Free. Using a steering wheel-mounted button, customers with a compatible iPhone* running iOS 6 can now direct Siri to perform a number of tasks while they safely keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel. To further minimize distraction, Siri takes hands-free functionality even further with an Eyes Free mode which enables you to interact with your iPhone using nothing more than your voice while keeping your device's screen from lighting up.

Opel officially returned to motorsport with the ADAM "Cup" in November 2012. Now the ADAM R2 Rallye Concept is presented, a new Rally Cup variant of Opel's small lifestyle car, built based on FIA R2 regulations. The ADAM R2 is powered by a 1.6-liter ECOTEC 16V engine with variable camshaft phasing that develops around 136 kW/185 hp and maximum torque of about 190 Nm in its competitive configuration. After its homologation, the ADAM R2 will be a top-class vehicle for international customer rallying, eligible for every national championship in Europe. "All 40 vehicles that Opel planned to race in Germany and France have already been sold and are in the hands of their proud owners," Karl-Thomas Neumann said.

* Siri is available in Beta only on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad (3rd and 4th generations), iPad mini and iPod touch (5th generation), and requires Internet access. Siri may not be available in all languages or in all areas, and features may vary by area. Cellular data charges may apply.
