Meet the 110-mile electric E-Schwalbe scooter

Looking for a classically styled electric scooter for commuting duties? Well, then the zero-emissions E-Schwalbe two-wheeler might be just what the doctor ordered.

The E-Schwalbe's retro styling is straight from the 1950s, but it's a thoroughly modern two-wheeler with some rather impressive specs. The E-Schwalbe scooters will be available in two flavors, with a top speed of either 30 miles per hour or 50 mph, depending on which flavor you choose. Range for both of the electrified two-wheelers is listed at up to 110 miles.

Prices start at 4,699 euros ($6,375 U.S. at today's exchange rate) for the slower version and hit 5,799 euros ($7,880) for the 50-mph two-wheeler.

Production of the German-built E-Schwalbe is set to begin in early 2012, with the first European deliveries scheduled for spring of next year. The E-Schwalbe scooter is expected to make its U.S. debut at DealerExpo 2012 in February. You don't have to wait that long to get a good look at it though. We offer you the opportunity to see it in motion (and brush up on your German language comprehension skills) in a video after the break.
