In truth, all-but-undisguised prototypes for the upcoming Porsche Macan compact crossover have been spotted galavanting all around the globe for some time now, but even the least-camouflaged examples have been caught wearing eyepatches covering their headlights and taillights. A dark new teaser image from Porsche clues us in to why that is – the baby Cayenne is getting unique quad-LED peepers up front.

Porsche has been hinting at lighting innovations in its production cars through recent concept reveals, including the stunning Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo showcar from last year's Paris Motor Show. The wagonized Panamera also featured four-point LED arrays up front, as well is in the rear (as have some 2014 production models), so it seems likely that this lighting will become a Porsche design signature going forward.

Powerpoint slides leaked from a recent dealer meeting suggest the Macan S will arrive packing a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, while the Macan Turbo will boast a 3.6-liter force-fed unit, with both models receiving seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearboxes. Pricing is expected to range from $52,000 for the S model to $75,000 for the Turbo.

The Macan is expected to debut at next month's Los Angeles Motor Show, though we wouldn't be surprised if it also shows up at the concurrent press days for the Tokyo Motor Show, as well.

You can get that same styling in the Cayenne, Panamera and 918 Spyder, so I'm not sure where the uniqueness comes into effect.

This. I have seen several Cayenne's running around with the 4 LED setup.

not unique, the new panameras have those and they arent even that bright or cool

I'm wondering if the Quad LED lights will only be for the Turbo models, similar to how the current Cayenne Turbo headlights have a unique look compared to S and base Cayenne models

I actually like the look. Not sure I can say why, but it looks better balanced than the Cayenne. Price will be the issue I think. Except for the full-on turbo, Cayenne's numerous models run $49k - $85k. Not sure how this is compelling at $52k-$75k.

This is going to be Porsches best seller. Porches performance with the practicality of a hatchback. It looks better then the CAyenne and all other Cuvs out there except of coure the EVoque which is so much better looking then every other cuv its crazy. These are the only two luxury cuvs I would buy. I am also considering ford focus, cx5 and subaru xuv on the lower end

So by unique, you mean the same design as the Porsche 918 Spyder hypercar? Definitely not unique.

You can get that LED setup of current Cayenne GTS and Turbo models... Auto blog got to start checking your facts...

Not unique, nor the first time with this headlight arrangement on the Macan. Porsche's current gen Cayenne GTS and Cayenne Turbos both have this same 2x2 LED headlight arrangement.
So unique that the Panamera and Cayenne have been using them for years.
not unique at all. The current generation Cayenne Turbos and Cayenne GTSs have the same LED headlight signature.

Imagine if that 3.6 will be the new twin-turbo VR6 that VW is rumoured to be developing! Porsche should take it just for the exhaust note alone.

This is not new. You see it on the Cayenne already.
