A class-action lawsuit, lodged against Volkswagen Group of America over alleged defects with the continuously variable transmissions (CVT) it put in 64,000 2002-06 Audi A4 and A6 models, has been settled. The German automaker has denied all allegations, telling the New York Times that it settled the case because it was "'mindful of the fact that future protracted litigation, with the burdens and uncertainties it creates, may not be in the best interests of their customers." (That said, the plantiff lawyers will receive about $2.4 million for fees and expense.)

What matters most to affected Audi owners is that the settlement bumps many parts of the original powertrain coverage (e.g., transmission control modules) from 4 years/50,000 miles to 10 years/100,000 miles for the original owner, and it will reimburse owners who paid for specific repairs if they occurred within the extended warranty coverage. The agreement also includes trade-in reimbursements for lost value if the vehicle was sold or traded with no repair. Excluded from the settlement are claims for personal injury, property damage or subrogation.

      Audi quality. Our Audi was great...for the first year. Thereafter, everything went wrong and the dealer/manufacturer refused to stand by their product. Nightmare ownership experience.

          its true there is no fuel cleaning the valves since the injector is in front of it. that is why the next generation audi engines have 8 injectors for a 4 cyl . 4 port injectors and 4 direct injectors and my 2013 2.0t has a cpma has a cold start injector. ps i am a Audi tech. audi is a innovator and pioneer and that sometimes has it downfall too. did you know toyota purchased a couple rs4s and ran them to the ground and would take them to the audi dealer for warranty repairs. yup they used it a s bench mark when making the Lexus IS F. i know someone that used to work at the dealer that toyota used to take their rs4s for repairs

      Does any auto company stand behind their product? I would really like to know who that is. If premium makes like BMW, Audi, and Porsche (i know the last two are the same) don't, then who?

        I easily lemoned my 335i with BMW. Very little effort and they took the car back. BMW earned major props from me even if every BMW I buy comes with factory defects.

          @icemilk He's just staying BMW is willing to own up to product defects whereas Audi is not. BMW did cave into the High Pressure Fuel Pump issue, and Turbo/Wastegate issues on their FI cars and eventually issued recalls and extended warranties on those items. They don't have a clean reputation but at least they are willing to acknowledge their quality issues.

      Just my luck. I had nothing but trouble with the 2003 Audi I purchased new. I had the transmission repaired under the warranty the first time. Then it had the same problem after the warranty was over and I was out of pocket over 6000. It was happening again when I traded it in 2011. This car cost me thousands in repairs not covered by the warranty. I had it less than a year when the axle broke and I hadn't hit anything or been in an accident so there was no reason this should have happened. Even though I like the design of this car, I would never take a chance again after owning a 2001 and a 2003 with nothing but trouble!

        Fortunately nobody buys automatics in the A4 and base A6s and the ones with automatic gearboxs mainly come with the "Tiptronic" (conventional automatic with torque converter)

      Owned two VW's: a 2005 Jetta TDI 5spd Manual and a 2011 Golf TDI 6spd DSG. The 2005 had more problems than any new car should have. The 2011 was much, much improved. I do think VAG has gotten their act together. Unfortunately perception = reality among the buying public.

        I don't know, I like to think VW has gotten better as well but their still very low reliability ratings and my experience with a close friend's 2010 jetta says otherwise to me.

        My 2008 GTI recently turned 57K miles and has been virtually problem-free. There was an issue with the IP that was replaced under warranty, and a loose license plate light bulb. The only non-covered issues were a recharge of the AC and replacing the rear brake rotors (which they claim is common at 30K miles). I'm almost afraid to trade it in on something else, as it's been very reliable. My previous car, a 2005 Cooper S, was lemon-lawed back to MINI thanks to a defective supercharger, recurring undiagnosable CEL, and many other smaller problems.
