The Chevrolet Sonic marketing shenanigans continue under the rubric of "Let's Do This," this time with a five-story 3D projection of a claw game on the side of The Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles. In fact, a couple of Sunset Boulevard's lanes had to be shut down to accommodate the controls, which were a waist-high gearshift and an acclerator pedal.

So big was the PR stunt that it earned Chevrolet a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the mightiest claw game on Earth. Follow the jump to see it in action and to watch someone win a non-projected, very real, Chevy Sonic.

      Who here honestly wants to buy a sonic now? Pointless. And a projection gets the record? I guess if a fake citizen with no past can become president, why not!

        I want a Sonic. You really like speaking for everybody, don't you? You seem to do it a lot.

      Does it really count if the whole thing is a projection rather than a physical game? It wont be a claw game, but a simulator. Wasnt there some claw game (a physical one) in Japan where the prizes were actual Toyota microcars (sub Yaris size)?

          Ok... So I'm going to go buy a really bright projector, shine it on the side of a 6 story building, then hook it up to my laptop and play some online claw game. Sorry Chevy, your game was only 5 stories tall, that record is mine. Why spend money on a huge construction when you can get into the books with a virtual projection? If I project a 50 foot tall picture of myself on a wall, does that make me the world's tallest man?

        @Krishan Mistry
        That's a good point... couldn't you just use a projector to shatter most of the "world's largest" records?

      So GM is trying to increase margins... and they do this? This kind of pointless "marketing" BS should be an obvious target for the Hackett Group. How many employees will the axe next summer to fund this kind of crap ?
