The BMW M5 has a long and rich performance history, and that resume only improves for 2012. With a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 pumping out 560 horsepower and an always-willing chassis underpinning it all, we can't wait to get behind the wheel.

Sadly we're a bit shy on the $92,000 needed to buy our own M5, so for now we'll settle for some stunning video and a melodious soundtrack. Hit the jump to hear the racy sounds emanating from the throaty M5, then stay for the sexy slow-motion drifts.

      The 8000rpm N/A ///M car is dead and will be missed. But the turbocharged torque ///Monster hopefully make a worthy heir. Any chance they still have a bunch of M3 V8 and M5 V10 engines lying around? A few special models would be a nice salute to the end of another breed of fine naturally aspirated engine. How about a V8 Z4M, and a super rare mid mount V10 M1 supercar?

      Same ol' story, I dunno why people argue Benz vs. BMW. The AMG is clearly the luxury car of the group. You can talk all you want about how your "about speed not lux"...until you sit in one. The BMW is a more stark interior and gives the impression that its there to get where you're going faster than anyone else. I believe BMW will always be the more fun car to drive around corners. The Benz more fun everywhere else. I wonder what that BMW would sound like with a different exhaust and intake? Monstrous I bet. But for 98k I'd rather listen to a flat 6.

        Yea, I don't know. I have a flat 6 and I like the sound of the M5 more.

      Gotta add that BMW needs to drop the Bangle look soon! Those headlight clusters are dated and don't look as performance oriented as the rear end. The BMW also doesn't photograph well. The squared off front end looks more impressive in person.

          No I love the Bangle designs, you're not alone. I think the E60 is gorgeous.

          You're not alone, I prefer the previous Gen 5-Series to this boat.

          I don't understand all the hate the Bangle designs get. The 6 series of that era was one of the most beautiful cars Ive ever seen.

      I drove thenew F10M5 beast in Spain two weeks ago. It sounded great on the outside, real noisy V8 rumble and rip snort when pressed. Inside, it sounded different - muted rumble plus whoosh sounds. It drove much better than my 2008 E60 M5. I mean far better - its grip on the road was remarkable, and suspension was amazing, especially on the country spanish roads. When I overtook little cars puttering slowly, the rush was incredible as the car just accelerates like a banshee. But the star was its transmission - the new DCT - amazingly smooth and fast shifts.

      Wow that was beautiful. Great video, and a lucky bastard lol. I would do a number of shameful and illegal things to drive this car like that

      I loved, and still do the E39 M5, but you can't beat the sound of the E60. This car will no doubt be quicker than both of those, and being turbo already should respond well to tunes and simple upgrades.

      I wanted to hear it at its limit. Crossplane V8 + 7000+rpm? unf.

      Q: When does your transmission have too many gears? A: When you shift 3 times on the exit of a corner.

        @Maxximtl
        That's an idiotic comment. If it's a slow corner you might be shifting 4-5 times after, even 6 times if you're driving a 7 speed. I could drive a 4 speed old american muscle **** and go around a corner in first and then shift 3 times on the exit. What does Maxximtl think the "optimum" number of gears is?
