2011 Holden Commodore SSV – Click above for high-res image gallery

With General Motors' cash flow back to reasonable levels, the company is re-evaluating its position on Australian-built Zeta rockets like the Holden Commodore. The last one we had on our shores was the much-lamented Pontiac G8, which was essentially a Commodore with a new set of badges.

With the success of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, GM has reportedly okay'd the development of a new Zeta sedan for the American market. According to reports, it's slated to debut in early 2013 as a 2014 model, concurrent with the introduction of the redesigned Holden Commodore. Particular details, such as engine size, transmission options and horsepower figures are as yet unavailable. That said, a pushrod small block in the neighborhood of 430 horsepower probably isn't too far off the mark.

The rumor gets juicier, and a tad more unbelievable, with the revelation that a sport wagon and Ute version of the car are coming as well. The ute, if it happens, will debut around the same time as the sedan, with the sport wagon arriving later in 2013.

well, if the Caprice name doesn't work out, there's always Buick, and the storied Roadmaster/Roadmaster Estate Nameplate!

      1) yeah, I'll believe it when I see it
      2) the taste'misters at GM will do their magic with hood scoops, chrome wheels and other rockin' good ideas - NOT. I have 0 'faith' in GM anymore.
      3) hope to be surprised, but odds are like 1 in 20 that this won't be totally *&^%up by US GM.

Well I see a G8 everytime I go within 5 miles of my house....

I'd love a Wagon or ute GM
I cannot imagine GM hauling out another wagon, with the CTS wagon not selling.

I'd love to see it, if true. And definitely bring the sedan and ute.

Hasn't happened yet, guess something must be up!

        Should have gotten a droid.

And you're still going to be downforce because you're quite arrogant.

This isn't official. Therefore, you are still wrong. All this is is a rumor.

Early rumours I hear is a v8 only so maybe they 'll just call it the Super Sport. As we saw with the GTO ,purists will scream foul if a name like Chevelle or Nova are used. If the Ute comes Stateside it will be the El Camino as that was the name the people chose in that fraud of a contest to name the Pontiac version we never saw ,that after all the votes were cast they were still going to name it ST . I've talked with several G8 owners and they love their cars ,but have been so mad at GM for killing Pontiac they may not buy another. They were loyal to that brand not GM.

Um, did something drastic happen in the currency markets? Was there a technological breakthrough in shipping logistics? Are Australians now making $10/hr? Because if not, I don't see how importing Holdens makes more financial sense now than it did w/the G8...which, though a nice try by GM, was a money loser.

P.S.: Over the last few months, GM has started doing some pretty screwy things. Anybody else worried that they're sliding back into their old habits? With Ford outselling them now, it's only a matter of time 'til we see the "classic" General Motors discounts, rebates, consumer cash, 0% financing, loyalty bonus, competition bonus, farm bureau bonus, military bonus, sub-550 FICA bonus and other incentive garbage programs...

Needs an LS3 (is direct injection too much to ask for?) and six speed manual.

No dod V8s with torque-managed auto trans.

Didn't Bob Lutz go on record saying this would eventually happen, only that
it would be in small numbers due to CAFE numbers?

WTFBBQ says "Needs an LS3 (is direct injection too much to ask for?) and six speed manual."

I already have that in my G8 GXP...thank you very much GM, you did do ONE thing right albeit for a very short time (1,829 unit build). But now I don't need you anymore since you dumped me.

        Hello Ford and Dodge.

Phew...I just got all lightheaded there for a second...430 hp?! hahahahahhahaa...(nervous/evil little laugh - not sure how you'd spell that out) Still a long way off though. They should be able to just do it now. If the G8 was certified, what the heck could hold this up another 3 years? Sheesh. By then...they'll cancel it again because of gas prices. Too little too late...still want it, but c'mon. 2013...?
