Ariel Atom Mugen Special Edition – Click above to enlarge

It's hard to believe that 10 whole years have passed since the only Brit crazier than Amy Winehouse hit the world stage. We are, of course, referring to the Ariel Atom, but you already knew that, didn't you? And, like any good anniversary celebration, AutoExpress reports that Ariel is celebrating its tenth by releasing a special edition, which sure beats the traditional anniversary gift of tin...

As befitting the celebration, Ariel plans to create just 10 special editions, the first of which will make its debut at the Autosport Show in the UK in January. The big news is that Ariel has partnered up with Mugen – a company that specializes in adding more power and finesse to Honda's wares – to boost the power of its Honda-sourced 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine from 245 to 270 horsepower.

Further frippery will include a special coat of paint and a plaque proclaiming its special place in the order along with the signatures of the Mugen and Ariel technicians who built it (just one of each will have their hands on the machine). Check out a larger version of the rendering by clicking on the image above.

The word "frippery" seems out of place in this article.

"...to boost the power of its Honda-sourced 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine from 245 to 270 horsepower."

Sounds like a good start, now put the supercharger on it!

Dont worry its a road car do a turbo on it then really go!

They should "open source" this thing, sell plans and parts, and stop charging ridiculous amounts of cheddar. Which might also, I don't know, allow them to increase exposure and sales by many multiples. Not to mention free up resources to maybe develop the idea further? Seeing how it's all but unchanged in those 10 years.

Love the car, drove on for a couple hours in Oregon and am sorry to see another supposedly hardcore car maker stoop to the " special edition " siren.......Bruce

YA it was a 240 Brammo car.......it's like getting stoned to death if you have sticky tires....but if I wanted track action, i'd much rather have an AA that and big GT3 or ZO6......magic in your hands......saw a chp loading an AA onto a flatbed in Malibu last week..........no idea what the story was there

yeah, it is weird they are making a special edition that is a midlevel car. It will probably cost more than the 300 as well. Who's car did you drive in Oregon? There are only like 5 of us here. Or was it at Brammo?
