There are plenty of reasons to get excited about the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The annual shindig is a mecca for metal from all over the world – old and new. Motorsports events from across the go-fast spectrum make it onto the schedule and there's even plenty of auto-themed art to keep the masses entertained when they aren't huffing tire smoke. In a word, the event is bliss for anyone with even a passing interest in the automobile.
But the grand daddy of it all has to be the Hill Climb. At 1.16 miles, the course features nine turns, a looming stone wall and enough hay to feed all the cows in Wisconsin for a week. Last year brought out a rash of new high-dollar supercars, including the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and the Lexus LFA, and as a result, there were plenty of manufacturers on hand to show off their newest hardware. While we were lurking the grounds and looking at all the shiny conveyances, drivers were blasting across the grounds and recording their exploits. We've rounded up 10 of the best videos from the hill and arranged them in no particular order. Sure, some of them are more entertaining than others, but all of them are better than what you're doing at work, right? Hit the jump to get started.
Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Gordon Robertson gives us all a sense of what it's like to shuffle the new Porsche 911 through the bales at speed. Perfection? Maybe so.
Just for comparison's sake, how about a quick blast strapped alongside the mighty Porsche 908/3?
This particular clip is a little different. Instead of giving the world a look through the windshield of the wildly exclusive Lexus LFA, the video focuses on the driver and his passenger. Hilarity ensues.
Ferrari 458 Italia
Ferrari brought out a handful of toys to play with, including the 458 Italia. Who needs rear tires?
Want to watch that 458 Italia's smoky burnout from the rear? The Ferrari California ran the hill right after its meaner brother.
Lotus Exige Cup 260
This has to be one of our favorites. Supercharger whine + small car glory = absolute win.
Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Yeah, yeah. Another Porsche. This time, EVO Magazine's infamous Chris Harris is at the wheel. What, no 599 GTO?
We tried to keep this list to just in-car videos, but this is too cool to pass up. McLaren brought its new MP4-12C to the hill, and the car looks right at home.
Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG took a crack at the course, complete with its one exhaust note to rule them all.
Ford Transit Connect
If someone gave you an opportunity to run the Goodwood hillclimb course in a Ford Transit Connect, would you do it? Absolutely, which is why these two guys are our personal heroes.
