FAW Red Flag – Click above for high-res image gallery

Beijing-based First Auto Works has long been the provider of the official transportation for the hierarchy of the People's Republic of China. Back in the 1950s, FAW started off building a localized version of the standard Soviet parade car, and over the past half century, they have evolved. FAW has also built licensed stretched sedans based on Audi and Lincoln vehicles.

Here at the Beijing Motor Show, FAW is showing off a new limo that is a modern interpretation those original models from the 1950s, but with a greenhouse and door array that looks more like a contemporary Rolls-Royce Phantom. We couldn't find any press materials written in English, but we have reason to believe that this machine is powered by a V12 engine that looks suspiciously like the one from the BMW 7 Series V12 of the late-1980s.

I thought the Chinese were communists so everyone is the same? so why dont all Chinese people drive around in these?
They are as much communists as North Korea is "Democratic" or "People's".

This company is hilarious. Any western company would say to that, wow, that design is really messed up. Buy Geely makes it! Kudos to them to make really ugly cars that will probably sell in China quite well. Bravo.

FAW is based in Changchun, not Beijing...

This could've been featured on the Top Gear episode with the communist cars...

they simply can't buy one, and I dare them do that.
The "Red Flag owner's club" is formed by the presidents of China.

        Seriously dude,

One of the funniest episodes in Top Gear History.

Heh that was my first thought too after seeing that. Probally going to watch that episode again today. One of the best from TG.

The headlight shrouds are a bit too big, and it looks like it has eyelashes--a feminine version of the Volga, if you will.

The only thing this thing appears to have in common with the 7-series M70 V12 is the number of pistons and the similar design of the intake manifolds. For starters, the bore, stroke, and displacement are different, the BMW has single cam heads with a total of 24 valves where as this engine has dual cams and 48 valves, and the water pumps are located in a differents locations on the blocks. That engine doesn't really have anything in common with a BMW V12. Do some research before writing nonsense like that.

Would look pretty cool with two doors. Like the Volga V12 built on a BMW 850i.

I knew it reminded me of something! You nailed it.

And if someone had told me there would be a new Chinese limo with a Sunbeam Tiger face and a body more than reminiscent of a Rolls Royce, I would have predicted I wouldn't like it at all.

        But I do! A little.

Looks wise it is not bad at all.

This car is so over the top, so ridiculously over-done that it's essentially a caricature of itself
... because of that, I actually kind of like it.

Please tell me that the red plastic hood ornament lights up. ROFLMAO

      Volga, is that you?
Especially that flag on the bonnet.
      Bloody chinese!

Anyone else like the spec sheet photo. Great Engrish on the description of the car. The left side says 6 speed + 1 reverse gear, and the description on the right side says 9 speed. Nice try!

Aw, damn! I thought no one else had noticed that!

        Good eye! LOL
