Winston tears the bumper off a police cruiser – Click above to watch video after the jump

Take one Chattanooga, Tennessee police cruiser, add a dog named Winston, and subtract one bumper. That's the math caught on video when Winston decided for reasons only he knows to completely tear off the bumper of the moving police car.

Kudos go to the officer driving the patrol car, who showed marvelous restraint in not simply making a Winston pancake. Following a stint in an animal shelter (where he was a model of good behavior), Winston has been sentenced to obedience school and his owner has bought him a Peterbilt for a chew toy when he gets out. Follow the jump for the action in both a CNN new package and via unedited police dashboard camera footage. Thanks for the tip, Peter!

Now we all know what those car chasing dogs would do when they DO catch the car! I know a great deal of Borders and Shelties that are car chasers. I too applaud the officers for not overreacting. It's too common for cops to use dogs as target practice. And @BrianFL, This story has NOTHING to do with dog fighting. Car chasing is as common as yard digging. To imply that a Shepherd or Malinois would be anything but an easy target for any type of bully breed in the ring is VickLike. You say you don't like dog fights but clearly wish harm to a K-9. Why would you say that? I thought the beginning of your sentence was going to lead to a funny joke about....'training dogs to attack cars instead of each other...LOL'..but instead you had to be violent. Sad.

My dog's favorite toy was tires-and she chewed them right down to the metal wires-but this is something different entirely...

Should we assume the owners paid for the car repair? The cop driving that car obviously likes dogs, to not kill the beast. But those owners need to watch "The Dog Whisperer" and learn a little dog psychology. The way the dog is pulling the man, you can see the dog does not accept the man as the pack leader. They're in for much more serious trouble unless that changes. Dogs are wonderful companions, but MUST have an assertive pack leader.

These are all great jokes. I just hope it doesn't happen to a person.

My bad...I spelled "would" wrong in the first sentence, and it should have said "would be having" K9's bumper...you can commence with voting me up now again.

Or was it ya'all were offended by the statement a pit bull or American Bulldog would eat Shep for lunch? You think it'd be the other way around? I have a friend who's pit bull killed his horse. I don't think a police dog would fair much better. Go ahead and disagree.

There's probably a joke in here involving cops and bacon, but I'm too lazy to go looking for it.

I see it as a little bright spot in these dark days for Toyota... "after tearing police Ford Crown Victoria to pieces he drive off in his master's Toyota 4everrunner"

He had a dream. he was going to catch a car for all of the other dogs that came before him who had tried and failed.

        He is a pioneer. :)

And I love how when the guy turned on his siren the dogs turned around with a "wtf dude" look.

why not just taser or paper spray the dog?
