We don't know if the marketing folks at Polyphony Digital are messing with us or if building one of the most impressive racing simulators of all time is just really, really hard. For some reason, the rumored release date of the hotly anticipated Gran Turismo 5 is jumping around like the rear axle of a gen one Cadillac CTS-V. We've heard December 29, 2009, late 2009 and even a March 2010 Japan release. Now comes word on the Amazon website that GT5 is going to be released on March 31, 2010. Frankly, we liked "late 2009" a lot more, but it appears we have little say in the matter.

Who knows, the constant date-shifting could be a heartless attempt by Kazunori Yamauchi and his minions to keep their perpetually forthcoming release in the news. We're thinking it's time to stop with the tomfoolery and get this thing launched. Five years and an all-new gaming console is long enough to wait for the answer to GT4.

      Who cares when it comes out, rather than being tricked by Sony's stupid marketing campaign, us Xbox owners will be enjoying a better racing game on October 27th. Seems like Polyphony and Sony are more interested in giving people screenshots than an actual game.

        Congratulations. Can you please enlighten us as to how you know how Gran Turismo 5 plays?

      I honestly bought my ps3 for GT5.... I've had prologue for what seems like FOREVER and I'm so over it.... I'm close to buying an xbox and just keeping my ps3 around for a blue ray player....
        • 5 Years Ago
        I did exactly that. I am happy.
        • 5 Years Ago
        I bought my PS3 specifically for Formula 1 Championship Edition but then got Prologue when it came out. I'm running out of things to do in Prologue but I still enjoy driving the cars I've got. I'll get GT5 when it comes out but I'm not chomping at the bit for it. When it gets here it gets here.

        But I'm also going to get a Xbox and Forza3 when it comes out.
      • 5 Years Ago
      So Forza 3 it is.
      • 5 Years Ago
      Its easy. They are simulating the future release of a game. And I´m simulating that I will buy a PS3 when its available. How about that???!!!
        • 5 Years Ago
        No kids and wife here too. I dont see the reason to buy the PS3 to play a demo, If I can spend that time on a real track on weekends, instead of seated on the couch.
        • 5 Years Ago
        I don't need to simulate buying a PS3. I bought one a while back so that I could use it as Blu-ray player, play games and media files.

        Can't see how 300 USD is too expensive for a Blu-ray +game system + media center. Then again I'm not weighed down by kids and wife.
      • 5 Years Ago
      I guess they are giving some time for the competition to come out with their simulated car games to see what last minute mods they can add to GT5...lol..
      • 5 Years Ago
      my guess is they keep adding cars to the game as they come out and thats whats delaying the game.
      • 5 Years Ago
      Is anyone else going to complain about GT5 Prologue? It's the same game but with less cars and tracks. Basically, it's a full-priced demo. Ugh.
        • 5 Years Ago
        @ waiownsyou:

        Whatever dude. If you wanna make yourself feel better cuz you bought a $50-$60 demo, go ahead, but don't use that as the reason to call yourself a "hardcore" GT fan.

        I'm a hardcore GT fan, but I'm not gonna drop that kinda money on 50 cars and no ability to modify any of them. That's pretty idiotic.

        There's good reason to be pissed at Polyphony Digital right now. I know they're developing an awesome product, and awesome products take time, but all this date-dropping is getting pretty d@mn annoying. There's a simple solution, as long as it takes, not date-drop unless you can actually deliver.
        • 5 Years Ago
        I guess I'm not hardcore. I bought Prologue used.
        • 5 Years Ago
        @Chris

        I take it that it never occurred to you that some people who love racing games don't deem it worthwhile to buy a whole new system and setup for a demo they are being charged for? To say that people who are bashing this endless failure to meet deadlines are not hardcore or Forza fans is absolutely moronic btw. Ever think that there are people who simply don't want to fork over cash for a game that MIGHT be coming god knows when? It's already been pushed back onto another system, why buy a PS3 just for prologue?

        Fanboyism never ceases to amaze me.
        • 5 Years Ago
        I know. I am fed up of playing the Prologue.

        @NateB123

        First off.....if forking over $30 for GT5 Prologue is so problematic for some, they shouldn't be wasting time posting on any website. They have more important things to worry about, obviously! You are a fool to think the game "might" be coming. It's not a matter of "if", but "when". So buying the PS3 isn't going to backfire on anyone.

        @Acura

        Dude....are you living in a cave??? I paid $29.99 for GT5P the day it came out....it was NEVER $50-$60. Also, there are way more than 50 cars in the game. In case you didn't know, you can tune the cars in Prologue. If you're hellbent on adding spoilers, fancy paint and fartcans to your cars then there are already plently of racing games out there for you. If you are a hardcore racer and strive to get around the track as fast as you can by means of your tuning ability and your driving skills then GT5P will keep you very busy.

        You're not a hardcore GT racer, you are just cheap and uninformed!

        • 5 Years Ago
        The hardcore GT gamers already have Prologue. Anybody out there who claims to be so upset about the delayed release of the real game, and DOESN'T already have Prologue, is just a poser. They are either anti-PS3 or a Forza fan and just want to rub it in even more. Its kinda like the Yankee fan who calls up the radio station posing as a Met fan and bashes the Mets. So sad.

        I've been racing Prologue for over a year now. It's highly entertaining and highly competitive and will keep me entertained for another year if it must. There are many leagues and contests that you can join and compete in if you follow the online forums. Its not a perfect system and sometimes hit or miss, but fun can be had.

        However, I must say that these Polyphony guys, aside from making the best game ever, really have made themselves look like morons. Its ok to miss a deadline, but to miss it several times and by more than a year shows that somebody really sucks at what they do. They better get it right!

        • 5 Years Ago
        I'd say I'm a fairly hardcore GT fan, played all 4, bought a PS2 for GT3, but I'm NOT going to buy a PS3 for "prologue" especially when Forza exists (GT5 will probably be what it takes to get me to buy a PS3).

        I like some things about each of the games, but bottom line, I'm a fan of realistic car games and Forza is a good example.

        Funny truth of the matter 3 Forza games will have launched in the time it took to develop 1 GT game.

      This was officially announced a couple of weeks ago, the game is set to come out March 2010. Sure this is a Auto blog not a video game blog but if you are going to attempt to cover it then do it properly.

      I think Sony is doing this on purpose. Maybe I'm wrong....but here's my opinion:

      The holidays are approaching. It seems like there are at least 150,000 gamers out there holding out on the PS3 for when GT5 is released. There are also thousands of PS3's on kids' Xmas lists who want the PS3 for other games besides GT5. If GT5 gets released around Xmas, there might be a major shortage of PS3's and there is always the possiblity of some little kid getting an Xbox or a Wii instead of the PS3 when it turns out that he/she won't have it in time for Xmas.

      Sony knows that very few GT5 gamers are going to give up on waiting for GT5, especially with the success GT5P is having. So they know they have us in their back pocket. They'll string us out for a little while longer and cater to those who are planning on buying the PS3 for other games.

      I knew this game was going to take FOREVER when i watched "the making of" in the Prologue video section. They were talking like they were like only ten percent done when Prologue came out.
