Hennessey Performance HPE700 – Click above for high-res image gallery

Hennessey Performance has successfully completed the most crucial step in developing its ZR1-powered HPE700: Getting the Corvette ZR1's LS9 motor to fit in the engine bay of the new Camaro. John Hennessey just sent over these images that show the before and after, and from the look of things, the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 fits nicely.

The engine cover that's visible through a polycarbonate window on the Corvette ZR1 lines up nicely against the Camaro's firewall and it appears there's still some room left in front of the engine. While the LS9 normally produces 638 hp in the ZR1, as its name suggests, the Hennessey HPE700 will be shooting for over 700 horsepower. Only 24 examples will be produced and Hennessey has already sold 11. If you're interested, check out the official specs and features on the Hennessey Performance website.

      I have no personal stake in what has turned into an argument but I can't stand reading some of these comments from people putting down Hennessey. It is very obvious this guy employs people who actually do know what they are doing. Furthermore, when has a true car guy ever needed a reason to stuff the biggest baddest motor possible in any car. The reason i think AB reports on Hennessey at all is becuase people do find what what he does interesting. I look at this site to see who the first guy to shoehorn an LS9 into a camaro is. That is the reason we love cars. News is about first information not best information. Maybe if some other builders started beating Hennessey to the punch then he wouldn't get as much press-time. I say until then sit-back relax and enjoy the constant lunacy.

      For the price... i would stay with the ZR1.

      Why wouldn't it fit?
        • 5 Years Ago
        Corvette accessories and exhaust manifolds have had several differences over F body LT1/LS1 engines in the past.

        This still may be the case with the new generation Corvette/Camaro.

        I'd imagine it might not fit if the engine bay was too small to accommodate the LS9.

        Also requisite "Hennessey is a crook/thieft/etc." message.

        @mean2u:

        Er, of course it would fit. The LS9 has the same block as an LS3, with a custom TVS2300 slapped on top of it.

        There's plenty of LS3 Camaro SS's out there with the TVS2300 sitting atop it. There's virtually no difference...

      "It Fits!"

      That's what she said.

      Ok If you guys don't wanna read stuff about John Hennessey, then dont read the Auto Blog Post, instead of holding mistakes John made in the past to this very day, you could be a "real car enthusiast" and say, wow great job, you put a LS9 into the new camaro, yes all the R/D and parts were expensive, but it is still really cool, that it was done, among many other things that happen at the Hennessey Shop
