Stile Bertone Mantide - Click above for high-res gallery

For fans of Italian automotive design, it's been a deliciously torturous process to watch the slow, webisode-by-webisode reveal of Stile Bertone's highly anticipated Project M, but we've just about made it to the end. After revealing the car's underpinnings as those of the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and revealing its name ("I always thought M was a randomly assigned initial, I had no idea it stood for...") Mantide, the latest installment has just hit the intertubes to reveal the concept supercar in all its glory.

The finished Mantide cuts an intriguingly aggressive shape, and you can immediately identify that it's been styled by the same hand as the one responsible for various Ferraris of late. Follow the jump to watch the video for yourself, click on these thumbnails to see the first batch of official photos, and drop by our comments section below to share your thoughts. Shout-out to Patrick for the tip!

i think the idea was to fashion a surface language and generate a new aero form. tho they haven't released what the drag coeff is...

i think it could be a way forward, it reminds me of the citroen gt and lambo reventon. precision and speed....abstract? maybe

Man this thing looks pretty amateur to say the least. It's like someone tried to pack four car designs into one. Bertone was always known for their pure and lean design. This was a lot of hype over a rather disappointing design, this might be the end of Bertone all together.

      Certainly a "unique" looking car

The majority of comments prove just how many people have bad taste.

5 years from now, when all the current Audi's are looking tired, this car will still look fresh.

10 years from now, when the Reventon is looking tired, and Bugatti simply looks fat, this car will still look fresh.

15 years from now, when all the other car companies start adding complex lines and honeycomb vents, everyone will point to this car as the one that started it all.

The majority of the comments here show just how much of the population lack design foresight. That is why none of you are designers.

Finally an intelligent comment. I'm a designer (not auto, but exhibit) and I can truly appreciate the statement this car makes. This will definitely inspire many future designs, auto and other.

I am a car designer and I think it is horrible.
they tried to go as crazy as citroen (with some cheap C-Metisse headlamp copy, Concept GT rear end), they ended up with something uselessly complex, and with many different styles : edgy and faceted nose, cruvy and smoothed side panels, Lambo wheel arches, little round hole for vents on the side but huge grilles or blackened areas at the back, etc...

honestly the teaser they released few days ago was very interesting but the final product lacks cohesion. it feels that they tried to put everything in one car.

      cool car,

I like the wing-like features, which remind me of a BMW design project I saw a few months ago http://images.businessweek.com/ss/07/06/0618_umea/source/6.htm

which Ferraris have been styled by Bertone recently? i can't think of one since the early 70s.

I totally disagree with the haters, but I guess that's expected. There are people at Ferrari Chat who will flame for days at the mention of the P4/5. Good job for stirring the pot.

      "Staggering 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 351 kph / 217mph"

That's pretty hot too. Should set a new record at the ring, no?

This monstrosity is what happens when a charismatic prettyboy that's lacking in talent (see Gorden Wagener) charms auto execs into a place where he has no business being.

OK, the front looks like a Mantis the rear looks like a demonic bass fish head..

there arent enough words in any language's dictionary to quantify the amount of ugliness here.
